First shocker of the tournament!!! Congrats South Laurel. The better team won.

Jared Grubb leads South Laurel with 20 points.

Tyrik Edwards tops all scorers with 26 points on 12-18 shooting, 1-1 3's, & 1-4 FT's. He was the best player on the floor, but got very little help from his teammates.

Hate it for Edwards, but I really don't understand why this is such a shocker. S. Laurel only lost to Mercer by 1. They are a very good team.

True, but a whole lot of people's Sweet 16 champion in contests just lost in round 1.

From what I saw, South Laurel a much better team. Christian County has individual talent, no concept of playing together. Edwards is a good player, needs to learn to pass the ball.

they were my upset alert for today. I knew they would be a tough out. Didn't expect them to win but I knew they were dangerous. Great win South Laurel :thumb:

12/18 fg that's what 67% was anyone else shooting that well. If anything sounds like he needed more attempts.

South Laurel has a winnable game in the quarterfinals too. They could make a run to Saturday.

Truth.

Again Christian County one of the most talent laden schools in the state, chokes at the state tournament, I guess their dominance of the second region is misleading. They go the whole year without losing to a Kentucky team and can't beat a team that lost several games, although that team is very good, congratulations to the boys from eastern Kentucky for exposing the team from Hopkinsville as pretenders.

South Laurel deserves some credit for not allowing Christian County to ever get comfortable. I saw a lot of individual play as well but they never looked comfortable today. South Laurel controlled the pace and tempo of this game. Christian County took a lot of bad shots and most of Edwards points came on layups in transition or through penetrating through the defense. He was never really forced to shoot a jumper and as a team Christian County couldn't score in a half court set. South Laurel executed a great game plan and will move on as a result.

The last time they were at the state tournament (2011) they won the tournament. The time before that (2010), they lost to Scott County in the second round. The last time they lost in the first round was 2009, when they fell to eventual state champion Holmes. Hardly choking.

They have been 18 times, the two times you mentioned aside from the championship are considered early exits and I don't know but it seems like they always get beat way before they should considering the talent they have.
