Afraid, johnnyappleseed is right. This coach is probably 100% percent pure in his motivational and enthusiasm, but some sick agenda parent will blow this coach into smithereans someday. Change your tactics coach to protect yourself from the periphials issue you are excited about and trying to motivate to achieve levels their parents never thought possible before you.

I believe it's completely harmless but we are in a different era. The thread states "Male coach" do others have a different thoughts/opinion if this was a female coach slapping the butt of male players or even female players?

When I coached middle school girls at Villa a few years ago I was always afraid of doing that so I got in the habit of gently tapping a kid on the head when they came out of a game or did something right in practice until one day I did it to a girl in practice the day after I broke my right ring finger and had a metal splint on it. I know the poor girl saw stars.

Probably completely harmless, but if I were in his position, I wouldn't do it. All it takes is one girl (or a disgruntled parent) to get upset.

I agree, he's really leaving himself very vulnerable. As said above, it only takes one unhappy parent to create mass destruction for a really good group of young people. High five, fist bump or a pat on the shoulder.

Mudd has been the E-town coach for 22 years so I'm sure all are familiar with his style and methods but still risky in today's society.

Trust me, I get both sides of the issue, but I see it has a harmless gesture of "good job" as they come off the floor. If the E-Town folks are cool with it, then I say, carry on my wayward son.

Believe me LB I know where you are coming from on this too. Personally I wouldn't care for it, but like you said, if their parents don't have an issue with it so be it. By the way LB I really enjoy your insight and great play by play of the games. I even have my 78 yr old mom turned on to BGP. She enjoys high school sports and told me that reading your play by play is almost as good as being there. Thanks again for everything you do for high school sports!!!

I haven't read every post and I will eventually. Either way, if a man can't smack his female players on the butt then females need to coach females and males need to coach males. I think we can all agree that isn't the way to solve the issue.
