Here's my take for what it's worth. Coach Mudd has been coach 22 years and all of a sudden we have an issue. Granted I don't approve, but if this man has been doing this for 22 years and not been an issue, why are we addressing it now? Besides, I think the Bible gives us a good solution to this situation. "To the pure all things are pure, but to those who are defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure; but even their mind and conscience are defiled." Titus 1:15. Since we are having this discussion could let us know where some minds are.

 

I don't think it has anything to do with where anyone's mind is on this subject, it has to do with the legal system, the school system(s) and parenting issues. This is not a moral issue, it's a system issue and the system is broken....

Are you implying it wasn't a moral issue 22 or even 10 years ago? It was a moral issue then, and I think it has a lot to do where people's minds are now. Not every "Male Coach" coaching a female sport is a bad guy. However, people take things that are meant has harmless (I don't know but I would think it is harmless to Coach Mudd) and turn it into a legal issue and ruin a man (again Coach Mudd) who means nothing by it.

Common sense should be your guiding factor. What would happen if a teacher did this in the classroom?? I can bet just about everyone here would lose their minds if a male teacher slapped their teenage daughters butt, myself included.

 

I'm not sure where the butt slap evolved from or how it became an acceptable part of the sports world. Personally, as a coach of boys, I stick high fives, handshakes, fist bumps and the like. I don't think any coach (of either sex) should slap the butt of any high school or youth player of either sex. In almost every other situation in the world, this would be completely unacceptable.

I don't have daughters, but I would have a huge issue with it if I did have a daughter playing for him. It probably is harmless but I feel it is totally inappropriate.

Very surprising LB13 that you don't have an issue with it. Just curious to know what Mrs. LB 13 would think about it. High fives, fist bumps, pat or arm around the shoulder yes. A grown man smacking my daughter in the butt....NO WAY.

Lost you right here...common sense is never a guiding factor when you are dealing with systems. It's a lowest common denominator function. Tort reform cures at least part of this...it will never be changed.
