Line was really long

Featured Replies

I know that this did happen with people I know. It would help to have a location that has more than one entrance/exit. There was no problem once inside the building at Florence Baptist. The difficulty was getting in and out of the parking lot.

I believe it. That's an especially bad/congested area as it is. A friend of mine sent a picture of the line of cars on Mt. Zion he was waiting in.

Who won was of no concern to me. Huge turnout? Didn't Jumper Dad point out that turnout was down 30 percent in Campbell County vs. the '12 GOP primary? The idea is to make it easy for people to vote, which means 1,000 cars don't fit into 300 spaces at a middle school or church parking lot at 11 a.m. on a Saturday.

GOP was just trying to ease the financial burden for golden boy Paul, thinking that three polling sites for Boone-Kenton-Campbell would be sufficient. Republican voters got shortchanged.

J-dad, if this primary matched 2012 primary then turnout wasn't very good.

2016 229,667 ballots cast

2012 176,802 votes cast

2008 197,658 votes cast

2004 117,379 votes cast

2000 91,323 votes cast

So comparing this Caucus to the past 4 GOP Primaries, most of which the races were already over, the Caucus turn out compares very favorably.

More Republicans cast ballots yesterday in the GOP Caucus (229,667) than voted in the hotly contested Governors Primary last year where 214,193 votes were cast.

IMO by nearly any measure the GOP Caucus was a success, regardless of who won.

I personally have never seen so many Republicans gathered in one place as I did Saturday.

did it look anything like this?

:eek::eek: Just think what it would have been with more voting places! Lots of energy in the GOP.

That was what it looked like at the table where they had pens and I had on a yellow hat.

This paragraph from the Courier-Journal:

"In actuality, however, turnout wasn't that much better than in past years. Yesterday, 229,667 voters cast ballots, or 17.9 percent of registered voters."

So was "none of the above" the real winner in this primary?

Registered Republican voters, or just registered voters? Big Difference between the two.

Eh, that's a lame argument by the CJ. If the numbers posted by JD are accurate that's a substantially higher turnout than typical.

It's CJ, do you expect anything less?

Roughly 3.2 million registered voters in KY, so the 18 percent turnout pertains only to GOP registered voters ... 230,000 divided by 1.25 million registered Republicans.

So count me among those disputing claims of monster turnout. Lines were long mainly because of too few voting locations for too many people.

JD's numbers support a monster turnout for a primary or caucus, no doubt about it. They are all the more impressive considering the pitfalls encountered. KY GOP has to be pumped.

You aren't buying facts, I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

Here's a fact for you: Republican turnout in Louisiana yesterday was 19 percent, one percentage point higher than the "monster turnout" in Kentucky.

Compare apples to apples. Was the turnout larger than most recent GOP primaries the answer is yes by a significant margin.

So you trying to down play it or call it a failure is just silly.
