I wouldn't be shocked if Trump says another outrageously racist, sexist, or prejudiced (take your pick) statement that really hurts him. I think like we saw with Manny Pacquio, a homophobic statement is the way to lose support - and anything Trump says ceases to shock me any more.

The most likely scenario to him not being the nominee is him simply running as an independent. If they try to hard to take it from him, he will cry foul and run independent. He has already set the stage for this. If he gets the nomination, they are sunk. If they try to take it from him, he takes a good third of the republican base off into the sunset. Think Ross Perot on steriods lol. The end is nigh for the republicans .

I'm just hoping this opens up the door for a 3rd party to start to make some inroads.

McConnell needs to ask some tough questions of himself before secretly outlining how he intends to turn the Cleveland GOP convention topsy-turvy. For instance: "What part did my just-say-no obstructionist tactics over the past seven-eight years play in giving rise to the Trump phenomenon?" A demogogue doesn't spring up in a vacuum, Mitch.

Voters are looking for something (anything!!) different than all the We vs They, D vs R, our side of the aisle vs their side of aisle bull. Not that Trump can deliver, but he sure is different than the others!

Donald Trump and Hilary being leading candidates could be a good thing for our country in the long run. Our country is so messed up right now anyways because of how much both parties fight with each other and don't want to give any ground to the other party even if the other party has a good idea. That if both parties have people as their candidates that people don't like, it could be the thing to finally get these two parties to stop acting like teenage girls in an argument and decide to work together for once.

 

Trump may not be a good President and I don't think I would vote for Trump. However this Trump situation IMO could end up being a great thing for our country with making our country realize how bad off our political parties have gotten.

Are you kidding, Trump himself said he could commit murder and he'd still have the support of the people. I predict he'll take Rubio out during the next debate. He would have tried this with Jeb but I think Trump knows Bush could take him.

 

He seems to be well on his way, barring something strange, which certainly is possible in this political cycle. He leads big in most ST states. He likely loses Texas but will probably sweep all others. Unless something changes, he probably steamrolls his competitors on March 15 as well and will have it all but locked up when you look at the delegate math.

 

Is there a scenario that you feel will most likely stump Trump on his way to the nomination? Maybe something so heinous coming out of his foul mouth that turns away even his most ardent supporters? I doubt there could be anything heinous enough for his strange following. Some new, damaging revelation, perhaps ?

What about the party trying to "steal" the nomination from him at the convention? Everyone drops out after tomorrow and consolidates around Cruz?

 

If there's anything that puts a halt to the Trump Train , what will it be?

 

The answer here is Divine intervention. Providence will end this thing for Donald. It will probably happen at a commercial break during one of the remaining debates.

 

The Donald will be working feverishly on a comb-over and there will be a bolt of lightening out of a clear sky. The Donald will become crispy almost instantaneously. A thunderous voice will be heard to say, "You're fired!" Since it happened during the comb-over, Science Friction and MayfieldFan can maintain it had nothing to do with God but can easily be explained as a rare occurrence of extreme static electricity. They will try to reproduce this effect in an experiment to show that it can be explained by natural causes. MayfieldFan is handed a comb by Science Friction and told to start combing since his avatar has more hair to work with.

 

As the Donald's family gathers around him, they can be heard to mumble, "At least we don't have pay to have him cremated", his wife cannot wipe the smile off her face and is spotted dialing her attorney and asking how soon the will can be read.

 

Afterward, in an interview with ABC's George Stephanopoulus, a tearful Ted Cruz says he is thankful for answered prayer. When asked for his opinion, Ben CArson just stands there looking sheepish. BGP crashes and is down for three days as posters are in a frenzy...

I see your point but I don't know that in the short term we could recover from a Trump administration, too much damage can be done in a short time. The saving grace is that the next president is going to be bottled up by Congress, thus limiting the damage that can be done.

Very true. The one good thing about Trump is that he is not going to want to fail. As loud as he is, he is very prideful and is not going to want to fail if he does become President. So he may be more willing to work with both sides to make sure things get done the right way for our country to make himself look good. At least that is what I hope happens if he does end up winning.

Ran across this CNN opinion piece (link below) that reiterates my point, namely, that Boehner and McConnell share blame for Trump's rise. The anti-politics-as-usual movement is real, despite the fact that a real odd duck is leading said movement.

Chuck Todd said this morning that to get in the Ballot as an independent candidate in Texas someone must file tomorrow. I didn't check that just going off what he said, but point is this splinter of Bloomsberg/Romney III may happen tomorrow with Trump as the Republican but the establishment behind the "New Republicans". :idunno:
