I think we are there and we have been for some time. In the thread I started on why is there so much turn over among head coaches... the same reasons there is the turnover are the same reasons our sport is in trouble.

 

It is going to come down to how much a community wants football at the local level. And, do they have the resources to provide what they want.

 

To piggy back off that point. Rather the communities want to field a winning team and make successful young men, or just have a football team to say they have one.

KEA does not.

 

In that case, does anyone know of one of the organizations that would cover the coaching side of things, if so my KEA membership may go out the door.

Football is too dangerous to choose the latter. When London HS was getting ready to field their first football team, the debate in town was to go out and hire an experienced coach, or take one of the teachers at the HS, who had no knowledge of football, and make him the head coach. My grandmother told them that if they made the teacher the head coach, my dad was not playing. They went out and hired a very good coach.... Carl Oakley.

I agree but so many schools across the state are just happy fielding a team. This seems like a case of a group of parents getting their way, and railroading a good coach and even better man. Sadly this is a story that is happening far to often in KY High school football.

Good guys sometimes have a tough go. Not the first time he has been let go. They wanted him out at Harrison after a long stay, LCA as well, and Now Rowan, While I think he is a good coach and a good guy. This is not the first time he has been let go. What were the reasons at those places? I have no doubt the Admin at Rowan is weak they way they have handled this proves that. But what are the complaints? Does anyone know?

Times change, Maybe he's to old school for today's game. He's almost 65? You have to be able to relate to kids in today's game. No one cares what you did 20 years ago.

Irrelevant. They won 5 games last year, which is more than they have won in several years. It is not illegal to be old school, whatever that means, and its also not illegal to be mediocre at coaching football. He is being accused of illegal things. (I highly doubt Ray has ever done anything illegal) You might be one of the people trying to railroad him if you want to blur the lines of criticism beyond what the actual investigation is.

Maybe you should look at the success Harrison and Lex. Christian has had since he left. That might be a good indicator of the job he did. Don't know his age. Doubt he is 65 but heck there is a guy named Saban in his 60's doing ok. I also think there are many adults that care what he did 20 years ago. They were kids that played for him. Seems like someone just wants to take a shot at the guy for no other reason except to bring a negative tone. Whether or not he ever coaches again I bet the amount of good he has done will last long after he is not coaching and has left this earth. Graham is a builder upper and not a tear down guy.

After doing some fact checking I find that Graham retired from Harrison to work in a private system to double dip as they say. He was let go at LCA for nothing other than win loss is what I am told.

I still don't know what you are talking about. The OEA doesn't investigate someone because they are not a program changer or because they are over 60 years old. Like I said all of that is irrelevant. The OEA is the education world version of the IRS and they deal with legal matters for the Kentucky department of education. They do not investigate bad football coaches.

What are the illegal things under investigation. My post was about information not about railroading anyone. I am just asking questions here. Facts should help the coaches case in my opinion.

Rowan County will be open if I was Coach Graham I would say you can have it. Rowan was decent with Shadon Brown but he also had the luxury of having Adam Wing running the show. Shadon is a great football coach and couldn't satisfy Rowan County. I don't understand why these schools put no emphasis on football and/or athletics. It's sad what is happening to Coach Graham but he won't be the first or last to do with stuff as a coach. If administration doesn't improve over the years public education is in trouble.
