Then I guess I was given bad information. The person that shared this info with me is a high ranking official in the Rowan County system, so he should know. Also, in hearing discussions at the district and regional basketball tournaments, I have heard the same info and no other mention of anything else.

Also, if you go to their site (Office of Education Accountability homepage), you will see that the OEA deals with a lot more than just finances.

I quess that is why we as a state are producing so many, great athletes. My point was coach what you know, and I would say Perry prior to coming to the talent at Catholic was beaten by a lot of traditional football teams, because he did not have Nerf talent.

Haywood and Graham are not in the same stratosphere. If Haywood were to go Rowan, he would struggle. It's different when you've been at a school 30+ years and continue to turn out successful teams. When you're returning to a school you coached at 30yrs ago, you're probably not going to fair to well. Belfry understands they're Belfry...do you think any group of parents would try to run off Haywood? No. Football is the life blood of that community. Dudley Hilton 60+, not having the best of times at Taylor Co. Tell me a coach that is 60+ And has started a new gig and been successful in this day and age...

 

Considering Taylor County was17-36 before Dudley came and he's 9-10 in the 1+ seasons he's been there I would say he's doing a very respectable job. If Dudley decides to stay within the next 3-4 years Taylor County will be a very good ball team.

Its a mess. From what I heard there are all sorts of allegations being brought up along these lines. Supposedly it started because a parent believed their son didnt get playing time because he was not active in the school FCA program (which coach Graham is the leader of) and others have piled on. Its a shame because Rowan has some talent coming up and this is going to just ruin the program.

 

Those of us that have known Coach Graham knows he wears his faith on his sleeve, always has, always will and unfortunately this is probably going to come back to hurt him. Ive known Coach Graham for over 20 years now, and I have never known him to force faith on anyone.

Come out tell parents/OEA that the coach is doing a good job of teaching/coaching kids. The parents are starting a witch hunt...

It just takes one anti religious person to ruin something for 50-75 people. Heaven forbid Christians don't just stop praying for the sake of some person

Unfortunately, Christian coaches know what is on the line if they wear their faith on their sleeve so to speak. They hated Christ, they will hate you. This is not a Christian country anymore. It is a high privilege to be fired or persecuted for faith in Jesus Christ. It just should not surprise an outspoken coach that they may lose their job because of it. I am sure Coach Graham has counted the cost! It is sad to see our country deteriorate like this.

We must be able to separate the two. If this is the true reason for all of the troubles, then maybe he should have stayed at LCA (a private school and, thus, not part of the State) where he would have more opportunities to directly wear his faith on his sleeve.

We must be able to separate the two. I interpret the "separation of church and state" clause differently than you if it means the complete sanitization of anything religious, such as, voluntary prayer, FCA, etc. The state cannot establish a religion - this is the intent of "separation of church and state." The founding father's were against a state church, like England at the time. English people were forced to be members of the Church of England or suffered grave consequences at the hands of the state, who also took up a church tax. The founding fathers, thus, rightly concluded both entities should be distinct from one another, but not mutually exclusive, reason being you cannot seperate one's religious belief from their personhood. There would be no protest from them regarding voluntary prayer, voluntary participation in FCA, student led ministry go for it, why not? No violation of the constitution. For as long as no one is forced, penalized or coerced. It is hard to scrub a religion and separate it from a state who was profoundly impacted by said religion.
