Ivan got by with a few plays in his Wing T. Most of us are not that lucky. You're right you can only have so many run blocking schemes though. Still with passes and screens, you're looking at considerably more than 5.

 

Yeah I exaggerated a bit saying 5. Hopefully Mullins can provide some stability. If he does what he did at Greenup, at Dunbar they will be successful.

They don't run many more than 5 but it's definitely more. I would guess they have a few more options in the passing game that they don't usually pull out. But I get your point, high school team doesn't need 40 plays.

Good coaches have a system they believe in and develop based on teams talent. Bad coaches grab bag and try do what they see and implement it. For example what auburn runs is great stuff but doesn't look as good with no athletes at certain high schools. So many bad coaches in this profession but what do you expect when the pay is nothing. I read something where most Kentucky schools still using stipends from 1991 that's last time they refigured numbers. That's pretty sad IMO

@FBI, who would you have rather played for then? The previous coach possibly?

I recommend at least 18 plays!!! I would use all my talent on the field.

Challenges for Mullins:

 

1. Realize the feeder program in FCPS middle schools is not good. Get the freshmen early and get them into a remedial skills and football basics program.

2. Compete with and recuirt against soccer. Get a couple of soccer players to convert since soccer is king in FCPS.

3. Leverage all the Dunbar athletic base. There are good lacrosse and hockey players that can play football.

3. Hope the board leaves you alone. Have heard that there are FCPS board members who dabble a lot in Dunbar athletics since is their territory.

Listen I am not saying the guy wont do a good job BUT 15-40? COME ON MAN!!! Typical Lexington, I heard the guy is a math teacher. I will bet that is why they hired him cause they have a math opening. You cant tell me guys with better records that are proven winners didn't apply for that job. Just saying

What if I told you that there are three coaches in this state (two of which are still active in, one coaching in another) that had a combined record of 89-124 (41% winning percentage) at their first jobs, with no playoff wins at those schools....but, now collectively own 15 state titles between the three of them?

You should see the job he did at Greenup. When he got there I think they had 15 players on a 4A team. Give the guy a chance he will impress
