I hear that they are already up in arms already about the hire

IMO even if a guy wins 5,6 or 7 games somewhere that might be like winning the state title somewhere else. And AT SOME PLACES you should play for the state title every year cause you have more talent than others. I don't know coach Mullins but he could be the best coach in the state you just don't know. I do know Lex doesn't give a poo about athletics so good luck to the man.

Dunbar has a history of hiring coaches, Paul Rains is an excellent football coach and couldn't win at Dunbar. Good luck to Coach Mullins but this a very surprising hire. It just goes to show you what most administrators are looking for now and that is a teacher before a coach. The pressure is mounting in public education for these schools to get test scores and not about hiring the best coach. I saw a stat the other day which stated since 2005 coaching in general has seen a reduction in workforce of 25%. This is sad and IMO don't see the trend changing much over the years.

Coach Mullins is a well regarded math teacher at GCHS. I am sure that played a part in this opportunity and working out a position in Lexington to teach and to coach. I figure he will see a rise in his compensation vs. GCHS in both positions. With him being young (mid 30's) and having a young family, i would think that would be a factor. He is a good hire for Dunbar as a teacher and a coach.

Having coached against his teams the past few years, it is quite apparent that his teams have improved greatly each year. Their defense this past season was by far the best that Greenup has had in YEARS! This wasn't just an academic hire. Coach Mullins is a coach that absolutely has my respect, and I do believe he was one of the hardest working coaches in our area. The culture at Greenup has changed for the good, and it is in large part, due to Coach Mullins.

I wasn't intending to say Coach Mullins is bad or as a negative simply saying I'm sure out of the candidates probably were better coaches/resumes that applied. He may go do very well there but to go from Greenup to a 6a lexington school is a bit puzzling to myself. Good luck to Coach Mullins and the Dunbar kids.

Simply put, I believe you lost any hope of credibility by posting this.

Rains took a team that was not competitive at beginning of season & came within seconds of beating State Runner Up Lafayette & their 10 D1 caliber players twice & Scott Co who has consistently been power in this side of 6A for last 10 years.

It is ok to disagree with PLDs hire or disagree with how Rains did things. But to say he wasn't a good coach and the new guy is doomed to fail shows a negative approach to your "support" of that program.

How many plays would you recommend? This isn't the NFL. I guarantee most teams at the high school level only run about 5 different plays.

Exaggerated a little bit, but yes I am serious. These high school kids only have so much time with the coaches. Hate placing the blame on the amount of plays. Ivan McGlone only ran about 6 different plays. Even at the college level Auburn only runs about 6 different run plays just dressed differently with motion and formations.

Ivan got by with a few plays in his Wing T. Most of us are not that lucky. You're right you can only have so many run blocking schemes though. Still with passes and screens, you're looking at considerably more than 5.
