SCOTUS Nomination Battle

Featured Replies

I would never, ever wish something bad to happen to anyone, not Judge Scalia , not Kim Davis, not even All Tell. Never, EVER! However, now that he has passed, I will say that if there is one SC judge that I would rather he be picking out drapes with Jesus than arguing on the High Court , it would be Antonin Scalia. He has done considerable damage in thirty years from his Supreme seat. It's time to move further left. It will likely be Hillary's move to make.

FWIW, JJ, I think it's the "lame-stream media" (to quote a genius:walk:) that makes us believe we are more divided than the past.

It ia very profitable for Fox and MSNBC.

Wow, I'm in elite company. And FWIW I was in the Kim Davis should have resigned camp.

Obama should nominate someone, the Senate then absolutely has the prerogative to vote or not to vote as leadership sees fit, just as leader Harry Reid made not voting the norm. My fear is that Obama will once again side step the Senate and make a recess appointment.

Lindsey Graham (who I don't care for much) made a great statement regarding this. Since the Dems nuked the rules on filibustering judicial appointments (a position the Dems were opposed to when they were majority I might add) there is no longer any road to come to consensus. The only way now to stop an "bad" nominee is to not vote.

Finally, I agree that McConnell should have kept his mouth shut.

People can continue to make their cases. But there is no advantage for the GOP to confirm anyone in 2016 .

What do they see on horizon the top two candidates on the left one is about to be indicted and the other is a socialist. Even if there is a chance they could win the presidency , neither is a strong enough candidate to carry a ticket and bring back the Senate.

The odds are even if the Democrats win the white house they don't take back the Senate. So we are back to square one in 2017.

But with the candidate the left are offering up I'd take my chance the GOP regains the white house .

I agree with your post but still believe that the eventual Dem nominee will be Biden...he wants to be begged to run and will be if the FBI says Hillary violated the law...even if Lynch and Obama do not indict her, she will be too damaged to continue...

Better hope your party doesn't nominate Trump then, buster.

I don't like Trump but if left nominates Sanders it won't matter who the right nominates. Months of commercials of Bernie admitting he is a socialist means the GOP coasts to victory.

I have not looked at the Senate races closely since last summer. However, much of what I looked at back in the summer said because of who was up and the status of those races, there was a good chance the Dems would win back control of the Senate.

There are tens of thousands at every campaign event that seem to think socialism sounds pretty good. It may not happen this time around but it's only a matter of time before America goes the way of northern Europe.... socialistic and atheistic. I'm not sure which will be first.

Not that I am a fan of the Bern, but he uses the term "Democrat Socialist"......not to be confused with a traditional Socialist.

See here for the difference What is Democratic Socialism? Q & A - Democratic Socialists of America

As to whether he can be successful in selling the difference......will take mounds of cash!!!

They day this country turns where a majority favor socialism then we are no longer free.

As its sits in every age group starting at the age of 30-39 look at socialism unfavorably by more than 50% . They youngest age group 18-29 favors socialism. But that has been the case for decades. They eventually grow up and have families and real jobs and that point of view changes.

If Bernie wants to try and win a National election where anywhere from 55 to 60 % of adults over the age of 30 look at socialism very unfavorably then as a Republican I'll take my chances.

I'm aware and it's just a mutated form of socialism. No matter how they paint the picture any form of socialism restricts freedom. When you put a ceiling on success freedom is gone.

He leads Trump in head to head matchup. Apparently socialism is preferable over Trumpism at this point.

Which side benefits the most from high voter turnout?

I think in this case the Republicans do.
