Just want to be sure, have heard different things. Is NKU still in the mix for future tournaments or is it just a Mt. Sterling/Maysville rotation?

How so?

Each of the Districts take turn "hosting" the Regional Tournament. The year it was at NKU it was the 37th District's year to host. The 38th & 39th always choose The Fieldhouse. The 40th chooses Montgomery County.

So this "system"is still in place?. For some reason, seems like I recall that after MoCo this year, The Fieldhouse would have it for awhile. Haven't they had it 2 years in a row, what year was it at NKU?

I'm pretty sure it is. I'm not sure why the 37th chose The Fieldhouse last time. Maybe it was an availability issue or something else entirely.

Keep it at the Feildhouse every year. :idunno: most central location logistically, and the popcorn.

Popcorn is good I agree with that, but not having it at the Fieldhouse every year. I know the 40th district will never vote for that now that we have MoCo that can host it.

I would like to see it at NKU about every 3 years....

Mason, MO,NKU

PC,BB,CC and Scott all schools that would benefit from the location....

Also more fans from NKY area would likely wanna watch some quality basketball from the 10th!

That will be up to the 37th District.

@Mustang

Two roatations back, in 2009 when the BOKC (now BB&T) was new and in its second year of hosting the 9th Region Tournament, it was the 37th District's turn to host the 10th Region tournament. Anthony Strong was the superintendent at Campbell County Schools. He pretty much single-handedly spearheaded a successful drive to host the 10th Region Tournament there in coordination with the 9th Region Tournament, feeling that it was proper to host the 10th Region Tournament within the 37th District (Highland Heights). He really worked hard to make this happen and overcame a lot of local adversity to see it through to fruition.

It had mixed reviews, with some liking the arena atmosphere, comforable seats, and a change of pace from hosting it in Maysville, but the majority longed for the tournament to be kept "at home" in the Fieldhouse. I am a member of the latter.

I agree with McPapa who wants the tournament held in a high school facility - preferably the Mason County Fieldhouse.

Four years ago in 2013 with Mr. Strong moving on to Pendleton County there was no movement among the 37th District athletic directors to go anywhere other than the Fieldhouse.

In rotation (2016-40th, 2017-37th, 2018-38th, and 2019-39th) it is each distict's call as to where to host the 10th Region Tournament. It is the 40th's option, which they chose, to host the tournament at Montgomery County High School. I strongly suspect that the 37th, 38th, and 39th will opt to have it played at the Fieldhouse in 2017, 18, and 19.

My argument for the Fieldhouse has always been that had the Fieldhouse not been built until the 2010s, we would all embrace a facility that had adequate seating and parking that was central to all of the schools of the 10th Region and we would vote to hold it there forever. Some nearsighted fans will always cite home court advantage for the Royals and nitpick the reasons for hosting it at the most popular (share money friendly) venue within the 10th Region.

As is, the 40th District is entitled to host this year's tournament in Mount Sterling, and we will work our butts off and enjoy the trip to MoCo (or Timbucktoo) to get the opportunity to play in this year's regional tournament wherever it might be held.

NKU charges an exhorbitant facility usage/management fee that makes the 9th Region much less profitable for the participating schools. If you go to the KHSAA website you can review the regional financials for all 16 regions. 10th is annually one of top performers in state, while 9th lags way behind. Memory tells me it was over $2,000 less payout per participant. Thats a lot to give up on top of the extra travel distance.
