Also if your so worried about a player not shaking a coaches hand, how about the last two years when game after game coaches would walk right by Deja Turner and not shake her hand? Did you see any one demanding a suspension because of a hand shake? No! Some states have now banned shaking hands after games!

 

Aren't the benches on the other side of the court away from the stands at Beechwood? How is it possible that you heard the coach talking to his player or a player from another team from the bleachers on the other side of the gym? Your statement above seems a little bit of a stretch that you could have heard any comments from the bench, I think your trying to draw the attention away from the player and justify her actions. I recognize that these schools have some history, it added to the atmosphere in the gym last night. The game that these girls played was one of the best games I've seen in a long time it was a true tournament atmosphere. That underdog energy carried over for Newport, those girls played inspired as well.

 

The incident with the players refusing to shake the coaches hand was unfortunate, did it lack sportsmanship, maybe, I certainly hope that it is discussed as a teachable moment to that player.

Now back to the game I look for this to be a battle after seeing both teams play last night I see a VERY low scoring game HC likes slowing it down getting in there sets and running them on offense and is very good at what they do on the defensive end of the ball.

 

In there game against Newport NCC when trying to push the ball and run would turn the ball over way to much so therefore I look for both teams wanting to play slow and play smart not taking tons of ill advised shots!

 

I see this one coming down to the wire HC 28 NCC 27!

Is this any surprise??? Like I said in the past...the same 1-2 teams win the All A region every year and that's pretty much true in every region! And it's for the small schools that don't have a chance otherwise. C'mon man! If I'm not mistaken, one of the teams won the state last year and the other represented the 9th at the state the year before! Okay, I'm done!

They may only have 130 girls but they draw from a larger area than the other public schools. I believe both of these schools have had girls transfer in. This was debut to death earlier this year, so I'm not trying to open that topic but please don't cry poor little us when you are getting impact players transferring in and not having to sit out.

 

I do have one question how was the girl from NCC allowed to stay in the lane on offense so long yesterday. I would like to say she was camping but she stayed so long it was more like she was on vacation a long vacation. Be interesting to see if that happens tonight.. If your a power in the 9th, expected to win you sometimes get a little help just my observation from watching a lot of 9th region games this year.

It does not matter who started or finished. It is our jobs as parents to teach our children the meaning of respect and their demeanor on the floor, in the hallway, locker rooms, etc., anywhere during sporting events. if there is a problem or words exchanged, there should have been an appropriate channel or parent/coach discussion with the adult. But never what I have witnessed at this game or the Boone County game for that matter, where there was cursing on the floor by two players who didn't get their way. Afterwards, they actually tried to fight their own coaches. Unbelievable!

 

Its all all about character and the rules shouldn't change based on who it is. Because the yelling at her own coach from the floor, then the opposing coach from the court would not be allowed from any other player, (with the exception of 1) that I've noticed. Lets not make anymore excuses than we've already heard this season. These things should not be happening and the ego is a big problem.

 

For example;McClendon and Tucker played for each other only this entire tournament only passing to each other the first two games (blatantly ignoring teammates yelling for ball that were wide open), so only they could score, (hence the reason for low scoring) until they needed help tonight against NCC. Anyone at this tournament was witness to that.

 

They didn't even feel like their own teammates were important in this tournament, so why should she care about the other team?

 

FYI, Since there was big talk in the stands about this selfish behavior the first two games, we were informed by a parent that all tournament teams are selected by total points or highest scorers. Not rebounds, not hard nose defense (which is what keeps them winning), not those jumping on the ground for lose balls, just highest points, period. I'm assuming this was the reason for the blow up last night, since beechwood made it impossible for her to score, so lashing out was probrably the result of that. But still very unsportsmanlike and disrespectful.

What khsaa should do is move the the All A Classic to the sametime as the districts and make the schools choose what they are going to play in. Either All A or the big one....

So the whole incident started when Beechwood's coach called a player over to the bench during a free throw to talk to her, and McClendon walked over to the Beechwood bench and stood there next to them to listen in to the conversation? I guess there is nothing wrong with that but I can't recall seeing it happen.
