Every year you hear about student athletes that are going to be D-1 players. Every year very few of these players sign to D-1 schools! It truly takes a special player to sign and play at the D-1 level, key word is play!

Who has honestly seen any players in NKY in the last 2, 3 or 4 years any true D-1 studs on NKY teams. Thoughts?

In the state of Kentucky, not just any specific region of the state, there really aren't a whole lot of true D-1 "studs" around.

 

I can't recall watching anyone in the last several years whom I thought could just step on a college campus, see the field in a meaningful way and be successful.

 

Even the big name recruits over the last few years I've thought would need to be gradually introduced into the game at the college level.

 

A true D-1 "stud" is truly a rare thing, especially in this state.

Describe True D1 stud. You are asking about him as a player. A stud to me is a kid who gets a ride to play college football, gets a great education for free and goes on to a business career after school.

This topic will depend on who you ask. Not many D1 players in KY? I say not many but there are always a handful or two handfuls.

If you are talking, Shawn Alexander, Michael Bush, Brian Brohm, Tim Couch etc., then it is very few. Solid players at D-1 level, 2-3 a year at most.

D1 includes both FBS and FCS. Lots of guys from NKY playing snaps at the FBS and FCS level.

 

Top level guys are rare. The last few were Barker, Simpson, Hansel, etc.

"Stud" is rare even in the state of FL. A guy like Dalvin Cook, who I got to see personally in the state championship game in 2013, is the exception not the rule heading into college. Think about it if you just look at UK and UL football rosters, most of the guys that sign with those two school are not necessarily "studs" in high school, but given two or three years they pan out to be very good college football players.

 

KY just doesn't have the quantity of kids to produce a high number of D1 players, but they do produce solid D1 players given the time to mature and adjust to college life.

Damian Harris will likely get a fair amount of carries next year at Bama. Now in term's of "stud" are we talking at the high school level? or at the college level?

Seems like we had several D1 players getting playing time this past year.

Hard to call a wide receiver a stud but Tajuan Taylor from PRP at Western might come to mind. Devante Parker from Ballard would qualify Miami Dolphins.

I believe what sets true D-1 talent and status apart from good/average is the size, strength and speed. Most kids in high school don't have all three, its rare, those that do can pick and choose most often their next level.

Landon Young is the only guy I could see stepping in as a Freshman and playing at a supremely high level

To me, he is a prime example of what is wrong with UK Football. Supposedly the choices were down to UK and Alabama, yet he chose UK. Sure he saw the field pretty much right away at UK but has yet to show much of anything after 2 years. Would he have even seen the field at Alabama or has he simply not been coached up at UK like he would have at UK. The one game I saw him in live action I thought he had potential, but needed some work, especially on his physique.
