That's fine. Pacman deserved the penalty. But the issue many have is Porter being out there were he was. Did Pereira comment on that and why there was no flag?

So, do you dispute NKU Baseballclub's post that clearly shows in the rule book that it can and often will be "interpreted" as a penalty?

Absolutely not. I thought the PI penalty on Allen was junk, as did all the Bengal fans around me. I also thought the call on the personal foul on the pass over the middle to Wheaton was junk, as did the Bengal fans around me.

Especially considering he chose that time to say hey to Kevin while walking around his players dancing at the logo as Huber's teammate is laying 20 yards away concussed. Heck at the time of the dance, there wasn't even a fumble called on the field, just a lifeless Gio.

First, Smith acts like a rat on crack 24 hours a day. In the event you ever watch another Steeler game, he's easliy seen in his hyperactive manner. Maybe he did incite Huber somehow. I'm not sold. If he was gonna have words with anyone to incite them he could have picked someone better. But maybe he did considering the context of that game and that moment. Maybe he said "I hope you shank your next one you such and such". Maybe that would make this crowd feel better.

Oh, I would use the same description for Brown. Not moving, on the ground, knocked out, seeing butterflies, etc...

There lies the problem... It's a penalty or it isn't...

I think the Burfict hit was a penalty and the Shazier hit was a penalty...

 

The Williams hit clearly was not a penalty in anybody's eyes and he was flagged...

 

I've seen shows on ESPN all day breaking down Burfict hits and penalties over the years... No one is in agreement on any of these shows as to what was clean and what wasn't...

 

Time to simplify the rules, take out interpretation... Even if you "accidentally" hit a guy illegally it's a penalty... Period.

 

Or, get back to real football... Ronnie Lott and Rod Woodsen wouldn't be hall of famers in today's NFL... It's weak.

As you said, several former officials and players think Shazier's hit wasn't a penalty, but just as many former officials and players disagree.

 

If that's the case, and it is... How do they expect fans to "understand" when it's a penalty and when it isn't one.

Btw, the players and families know the risks in football.. Their decision to participate or not.

 

I'm not saying lets just have guys hit each other in the head, etc... What I'm saying is, be consistent with the calls...

 

We had Williams put a clean hard hit on a guy, didn't hit him in the head or lead with his own head... He was penalized...

 

Shazier lead with his head into Gio's head and knocked him out cold... No flag.

Give me consistent calls... I'm not bothered by flags, just the inconsistency of them...

The NFL can make all the rule changes they want to try to protect players (and they should), but enforcement will be tough because the calls were always be subjective. The players are going to have to learn that these sorts of actions will no longer be tolerated in the future.

As NKU and I have suggested, the "big hit" calls don't have to be subjective... They can be called and reviewed quickly to get it right...

In college, they review the hits to determine "targeting". If so, the player is ejected. Maybe that is what the NFL needs.
