Correct. The crew doing the freshman and JV games also struggled with this.

Absolutely beautiful, but problematic design. Feel for the refs trying to make bang-bang calls with these confusing boundry lines. Someone put art above functionality. Looks like easy cure.

That seems awful deep under the basket for a volleyball court line. Usually on most courts the deep volleyball line is maybe halfway down the lane. Don't know what purpose that line serves. Maybe its something for cross court action, but can see how its confusing. Nice win Mustangs.

Actually the official, who is a seasoned veteran of state tournaments and state tournament championship games, got confused on where the out of bounds line was and called a volleyball line out which was about a foot and a half from the actual endzone. He made the mistake twice. The first was on Brossart's Logan Schultz who wasn't close and the second on the Camel player that wasn't close.

 

There was speculation that the second was a make-up call, but I'm not subscribing to that theory. Simply feel he became confused as to which was the true OOB line.

 

One year ago the Mustangs had the shot in the air to win the Crosstown, and it didn't go. Tonight the opposite was true with the Camels coming out on the short end.

 

Great atmosphere, and great competition. I was feeling good about it with the Stangs on top 40-30 at the 5 minute mark of the fourth quarter, when Cole Hegyl put his team on his shoulders and did his best to carry them to victory, scoring 9 points down the stretch.

 

Not our greatest hour, but a win over the Camels in the Crosstown is always special.

 

Jackson Crawford led all scorers with 20 points, while Jacob Zai added 12 for the Mustangs. Cole Hegyl led the Camels with 13, Matt Wilson added 11.

 

The Camels play NCC in the John Turner Classic at Newport tomorrow. The Mustangs have a more simple task with Robertson County in the opening round of the 10th Region "A" Classic at Bracken County High School.

CCMS is a fairly large, multi-purpose facility. When both sideline bleachers are retracted, there are two full-size basketball and volleyball courts that parallel each other, running perpendicular to the regulation court. The volleyball lines you reference are the SIDELINES of those auxiliary courts, and the two officials are standing where the net would be. Hope that helps.

I might be wrong about the early one then. I was on that end of the floor, but he may have called something else on that play.

Mustang, tell me again about those FTs down the stretch. Did CC do a lot of selective fouling like HC?

Campbell County came at us with a full court, run-jump press, pressuring the ball 84'.

Fouls occured while Brossart was negotiating the press.

 

The two fouls late in the game were to stop the clock and put us on the line.

Also, as previously stated, the calls in question had nothing to do with the outcome of the game. Camels could not get the ball in Wilson's hands enough. Hats off to Brossart. Campbell is struggling against the Catholic schools this season.

Thankfully there was an incorrect call against each team in the 4th - the mistake(s) had NO impact on the game. I don't believe the second was a make-up call, I sincerely think the ref was just confused. What I did think was "funny" was that he used the volleyball line when he made the mistake, but immediately went to the correct line to inbound the ball (both times).

 

I really think he just was in the moment and was confused on the multiple lines.

Brossart simply just played as a team,seniors on the floor at crunch time and crawford showed big.

Listening to Mustangs call of the final minute, missed free throws hurt both teams in this time frame.

 

Camels made a nice comeback in the 4th and had chances to go in front late but couldn't make free throws. Mustangs kept Camels in it down to the wire by missing some of their own. Great atmosphere as always. Not sure if there is another regular season game in the area with this large a crowd and this atmosphere.
