Happens a lot in grade school games. Many of these guys are not certified refs.

You see that in some leagues. I don't see it at Middle School games though. Tuck in the darn shirt and pull your shorts up.

What is it with EKY middle schools walking off the floor during a game? This isn't the first time I have heard of this happening and I just don't hear of it anywhere else.

 

With that said, if the dad of the coach stays in the stands where he is supposed to then this probably never happens. I guess you can say if the coach never pulled his team off it probably doesn't happen, but he did. Everything that happened after that is on the individuals, the dad I believe being most at fault. I'm quite sure he didn't go down there offering candy and flowers to the refs and telling them what a great job they did. 2C took up for him in a post above saying he's a great guy, and he might very well be, but he had absolutely NO reason what so ever to come out of the stands onto the floor and inject himself into the situation. Then the "fan" coming out on the stands running across the floor...that guys a freaking moron and shouldn't be allowed in a gym...but then again there's enough "moron" to go around in this situation too.

 

As far as the dad getting kicked in the head and the son pile driving the ref...I probably would have done the same thing/similar, then gotten all over my dad after the game telling him he should have never been in that situation in the first place.

I think this is a terrible thing to happen, especially at a school bball game. But what I see is only a few people involved in the fighting, the rest are trying to break it up. Might be a few that ran on the floor that are doing neither. Without being there and knowing the whole story, people on this sight and others are passing judgement and calling for charges, firings, jail time and banning parents, fans and coaches from future sporting events. If a guy throws a punch at you, are you gonna stand there and take it or are you going to defend yourself to your best ability? In the middle of this moment you see your father getting kicked at while he is down, your not going to go after the man that did it to prevent further harm to him? Sometimes fighting is the only and best option. I never want to see this happen at a kids sporting event at all. But when things like this do happen, you deal with it plain and simple. I'd bet most of the people screaming at what an outrage this is have never been in a fight and mostly run when controversy arises. What you saw on that video showed a guy shoving the ref looks like it started it all. But we weren't there and it may have started well before that.

I blame them all. I was just saying that if I seen an official or anyone else kicking my dad in the head, I'd be on that person like a honey badger.

What if a referee beat a coach's dad up? Hypothetically speaking of course.

 

Hypothetically, of course, if the official was on the court and was protecting themselves....all good. If the official, pursued, other than self defense, then hypothetically they should NEVER officiate again at any level.
