Interesting, I had heard the county was trying to sell it because it was loosing so much money to keep going. Deters buying it is kinda funny.

Sadly if someone buys it they will only keep one course and the other two will become the site of homes and condos.

Those two are the only courses I play there. I'm not good enough to play Fox Run.

Would Deters have enough to buy it? I don't see it unless he has investors backing him.

Fox Run isn't good enough for you. Fox Run has been in horrible shape for several years now. I wasn't a fan of the layout to begin with, but it's absolutely brutal to play when it's in such disrepair. Forced carries, horrible lies, blind shots...it's just not fun. I don't mind a hard course, but Fox Run just seems needlessly hard and difficult with no rhyme or reason. Easily the most overrated course in the area.

 

I know the county fired the GM back in November and launched an investigation into some financial issues. Kenton County golf manager fired, being investigated.

 

It would suck if the courses went private as it is so close to me. But really, it rarely looks busy, and tee times are plentiful. I can't imagine that the course could generate enough memberships if it went private, and as was mentioned, at least one of the courses and maybe two would end up getting shut down. The golf industry is spiraling down and that is one business I wouldn't want to be in right now.

The Deters family has quite a bit of commercial development investments so this would not surprise me and I am not surprised they have the money to buy this if this is true.

I knew Fox Run was in bad condition for the past couple years. I played it when it first opened and was overwhelmed by it (so I have stayed away since then). Willows was always my favorite. When my son is up from Lexington, we play Pioneer since we can play it rather quickly. Nice to have the 2 for 1 because I have G card.

You only buy golf courses if you want/have money to lose, or the asking price is cheap and you bulldoze it and make some sort of development. There is no money to be made buying the courses and keeping them, either public or private unless he has made some sort of deal with the devil. And from what I have heard on here about Deters, that's quite possible.

It depends on what kind of country club Deters wants it to be. If he wants it to be Triple Crown or Summit Hills he will broke within a year. If he wants it to be like an Eagle Creek or something along those lines, then I think he will be fairly successful. I'm a member at Eagle Creek, and it's not the toughest course, nor do the manicure every single blade of grass, but I love it and I play it just about everyday in the summertime. For the money, you can't beat it. I honestly don't understand why someone would play public courses in Nky when you could join a small country club.

i've always liked Fox for the first 16 holes. #17 & #18 to me, always felt like the designer ran out of space & crammed these last two in.

When it's in good condition, it is nice to look at. And I can see how people may like it. But for me, it's one of those courses that regularly turns good shots into bad shots. That being said, I'll gladly play there with you if you're paying ;-).
