January 4, 201610 yr Anyone hopes if this it true that he fails miserably? ANYTIME you buy a golf course, the chances of failing miserably are very good.
January 5, 201610 yr i've always liked Fox for the first 16 holes. #17 & #18 to me, always felt like the designer ran out of space & crammed these last two in. 18 is one of the worst holes ever. Just a stupid design IMO. Fox Run is a difficult course and I like difficult courses usually but I am not a fan. Some good holes but some bad ones too. A couple of par 5's from the back tees are stupid. It seems like the designer wanted to make sure it was 7,000 yards long so added a bunch of yardage to the par 5's that make them...well...just not very well thought out. I actually like the Willows more. I will put the 5 par 4's on the back nine at the Willows against any group of par 4's on any public course around here. All five are difficult but are well designed. The only holes on the Willows I don't like are 8 and 9. 8 is totally unfair off the tee...ball just rolls into the right rough even if you hit it in the left side of the fairway. 9 is just boring. HAVE to lay up off the tee. Just not a fan...rest of the front 9 is fine - love #4.
January 5, 201610 yr ANYTIME you buy a golf course, the chances of failing miserably are very good. It's like the old joke. How do you make a million dollars? Start out with 3 million and buy a golf course:lol2:

Once had (3) bogeys, (3) pars, (3) birdies for a cool 36, which was Nice. #10 green is a bit unfair (I'm betting more curse words on that green than any around, lol) Took me two decades, but finally realized the uphill 2nd shot on #14 will usually go left (barring a shank), rather than right. Just feels like a hanging/slice lie. Too many memories (going back to youth tourneys in the '70s) at Kenton County. Don't play there as much anymore, but would hate for that option to close.
January 5, 201610 yr I'd be shocked if this were true. Just don't see the benefit unless you build a subdivision on the property and I'm not sure you could get your $ back.

I haven't played Willows in a number of years, but in a league that I was in a long time ago, a couple guys who could draw the ball very well (and hit it 300 yards), would try to cut the corner on #9 and have a short iron into that par 5 green.

If the tee box was placed far enough right, you wouldn't need to draw the ball . . . straight shot over the corner, I'd say 260 yards to carry (downhill). Worked about 33% of time for me. Problem was if you sprayed it a little right at all you'd go over the slope to other side of fairway. A fore-caddie on that hole seems to be always needed.

The successful ones seemed to be majestic moon shots in order to clear the trees.
January 5, 201610 yr Well, my inside source who works at the Golf Courses of Kenton County was no help. He either does not know or he isn't talking.

I don't think you can do that anymore. They have placed some trees near the tee box that block you and if you try to go way left, they have let area all grown - you WILL lose your ball. I played there once last year and I don't think there is anyway to play it but laying up with your tee shot...

Yeah, 10 is like an Augusta green. MANY balls have been putted off that green for sure. I will never forget the first time I played that hole the guy I was playing with bet me I would take more than two putts on that hole when we were standing on the tee. I have played from a 4 to 8 handicap the last 30 years so I HAD to take that bet, right??? I lost
January 6, 201610 yr Author Well, my inside source who works at the Golf Courses of Kenton County was no help. He either does not know or he isn't talking. My source is/was a long time employee of the golf course. I haven't heard any details other than it being bought and becoming private, but I wouldn't be surprised to see them cut down to 1 course and build high end homes on the other courses.

I played there once last year and I don't think there is anyway to play it but laying up with your tee shot... Even the layup is odd...such a small landing zone for a 3 or 5 wood...easy to push it past and into trouble. I usually posted a large number on #9, but once I birdied it!
January 6, 201610 yr Back in the mid 90s the Willows was fantastic. They must have had a good "crew" and management back then. Sorry to hear about the current situation. I got married in '96 so my lack of fun money has contributed to my absence! :lol2: It's been well worth it... Sounds like a potential bgp outing may be warranted before the dozers claim willows and pioneer! Thoughts???
