How do you not know that you are 9 months pregnant?

Featured Replies

Saw this story. Find it hard to believe. 3 months go by. Ok I'll even give you 6 months that go by. But a day before the baby is born, how does someone not know that they are carrying a full term child?

Still a nice story. I wish them the best. Babies are precious no matter how old you are.

Woman gets Christmas Eve baby surprise - Cincinnati News, FOX19-WXIX TV

My buddy got a call from an ex girlfriend. "You're a dad!" Claims she was feeling bad, took a shower and delivered the baby in the shower. Said the had no idea she was pregnant. She had an 8 year old already so she knew what is was like to be pregnant. I have a hard time buying that story.

Yeah, I do too but I am not female.

My wife calls big time bull on this.

Well, it is Arkansas

Well, there are medical conditions that can cause the female body to not have normal function, therefore, the symptoms of pregnancy we all assume are there for everyone, may not be. Some conditions cause women not to have periods. Some women do not gain a lot of weight with pregnancy. Some women don't have morning sickness, while some do, bit not all the time and not debilitating. I would agree it's rare not to know you're pregnant. But there are actually a lot of reasons it COULD happen.

I've heard several of these "didn't know I was pregnant" stories over time. There's just no way that is true. Zero percent chance I'd ever believe such a story. The baby didn't move AT ALL? Come on now.

With one of my pregnancies, the movement felt more like bad gas than a living being moving inside of me.

My guess is most of these claims of "I didn't know" are false, but I think a small percentage of them are probably true.

Too much information RM:lol2::lol2:

Isn't there some TV show called something like "I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant"?

Well, old pap can certainly identify with that. Ask around.

So there is a chance I am preggers?

You're right, RM. I asked the thread title to Mrs. Blutarsky (who works at a pregnancy help center), and got an earful of medical reasons why it's possible.

Some women continue to have periods while they're pregnant. Some women use a type of birth control (DEPO shot) that eliminates their periods for several months, and they assume the shot is lasting longer than normal. After giving birth a woman may not start having periods for a while.

Add in the reasons that you stated, and while it may be rare, it's certainly possible.

PCOS is a condition that can also cause one to not realize they're pregnant. I'm glad that someone besides me knows these things. :lol2: I like Mrs. Blutarsky. :D
