Senate Approves Massive 1.8Trillion Spending and Tax Bills-How Would You Have Voted?

Featured Replies

I haven't seen much discussion on this, so here goes.

The House vote was 316-113. The Senate followed up with 65-33 in favor, much more than the simple majority that was needed.

It appears that the Democrats got pretty much everything they wanted. Most of the "bad stuff" that they wanted taken out of the original bill was removed. Republicans got run over in this one. Right-wing hackers and yackers are all up in arms over the concessions given to the Democrats by Ryan, McConnell, and others. I kinda like it. Nice having a GOP Speaker we can bend over.

Of the Presidential candidates, those voting "NO" were Cruz, Paul , Bernie Sanders and six Democrats(Manchin-WV, Markey-MA , McCaskill-MO , Merkley-OR, Tester-MT, and Wyden-OR).

Lindsey Graham voted for the bill.

There were two that didn't vote. Barbara Boxer-D(CA) and I'll give you one guess who else was absent. That's right..."NO SHOW RUBIO," your pretty boy candidate that doesn't like showing up for work. If I'm not mistaken , pretty boy had vowed to do whatever he could to halt this legislation. I guess staying at home was his best effort.

Rush says there are no true Republican Party anymore. He says they are all "Republicrats."

What do you think? Is it the same old "big talk, but bend over" from the wimpy Republicans?

He was almost cocky after this legislative success. It has been quite a successful last few months for your President. And that's not all, Speaker Ryan says there are other things that he thinks Republicans can work with the President on. Obama has his swagger back!!!! Come to think of it, so do I!!! :)

Obama and swagger? I'm not seeing it.

I would have voted: Do the job you were elected to do and pass a budget like the law says ?.....

The spending greased the tracks to get through the expanded surveillance bill known as CISA that couldn't pass muster as a stand alone bill. And since it was attached to the omnibus they didn't have to worry about making hollow concessions to privacy rights that were hanging up the previous effort.

I realize there's a bit of a quid pro quo necessary to make Congress function, but this is just a particular nasty example of that.

Everything will change after Putin and Trump control the world.

That's right..."NO SHOW RUBIO," your pretty boy candidate that doesn't like showing up for work.

You're hilarious! This, coming from a guy who supports obama, who simply voted "Present" on almost every bill for 4 years (Illinois & U.S. senate).

I actually agree with most of what you said SF, which I am sure surprises you:). Rush is right. The R's simply will not take the fight to Obama. This spending bill is a monstrosity that will just increase the federal debt even more and the R's just caved again. It is amazing the R establishment doesn't get how fed up the party outside of DC is with them. The country has voted majorities for the party in both the House and Senate and the R's in Washington just roll over and say that Obama will veto things so they don't make him. MAKE HIM VETO THINGS!!! They like spending only a little less than the Dems.

What makes Trump appealing to many R's is that they feel that even though he has a lot of warts, he (1) does not need a focus group or teleprompter to say something, (2) will fight for what he believes, (3) will take on the illegal immigrant problem we have and not ignore it like the rest of the R's, (4) will not cave to foreign leaders like Obama and Kerry and (5) knows more about creating jobs and the economy than all the other people running put together (on both sides).

I think many are so fed up with politicians on both sides, they think, "why not Trump, how can he be worse than what we have now?".

Trump is not my favorite R but I totally get why so many people follow him.

Lot's of great points, but as a republican I could never see myself voting for him. Maybe that will change.

I would have voted against it for the same reason I would have voted against the Affordable Care Act...not one person voting for it actually read it. It was reportedly thousands and thousands of pages long and everyone voted for it just because their little piece of pie was in it.

This is just another example of what is wrong in Washington.

Me neither , but if the opponent is Hill , then I guess it will have to do .

Great concise wrap up of The Donald by ggclfan .

The OP could be put on a poster illistrating everything that is wrong with our political climate.

In the very unlikely event that Rubio gerrymanders his way into an election night faux pas on the part of voters , he might become the first elected President to be a no-show for his own inauguration. In my less than humble opinion, Belushi will show up on the set of SNL again before Marco No Show will ever get his mail at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
