Eddie Gran new OC?

I thought this was confirmed already.

UK made an absurd offer and Gran asked to wait until after the bowl game for a decision. If the offer still stands after that disaster, he'd be a fool not to take it. Merry Christmas...

By absurd, you mean too much $$$?

They were a disaster tonight

A lot of $$$ and guaranteed years. Best of luck to UK if he is the guy...

People not happy now.

....imagine if he was running a style similar to Michigan State, LSU, Stanford or Heaven forbid the Flexbone.

This thread and the rest of the Big Blue Nation would be going up in flames right now.

7 points vs San Diego State. Get some.

My goodness in trouble before he has been even hired. UC's defense was pushed all over the field as well. Seems to be plenty of fingers to point at in that game. Match ups make games and apparently that was not a good one for UC.

Sounds like a UK hire. Too much money, too much contract, and not nearly as qualified.

Hal Mumme or Steve Spurrier. I mean the Ole Ball Coach, not Jr.

I've watched every second of every game for 3 years. I'd give him somewhere in the C+/B- range as a play caller. If that's worth 2 or 3 years guaranteed at 750K, enjoy...

I still think he is the best hire Stoops could get at the moment. He has a ton of experience, 15 years or so in the SEC I believe. This staff desperately needs someone with experience IMO, even if they are not an A grade play caller. He also seems to be a pretty decent computer.

His SEC experience is all as a RB coach though. He couldn't get an OC job until Tubbs was hired at UC. He does do a solid job recruiting south Florida, and that is something UK needs in a bad way...

That's still a lot more SEC experience than anyone else on this staff lol. I always value your opinion on college sports, especially basketball or anything related to UC. You have seen his play calling a lot more than I have and I trust your opinion on his abilities and faults. But I honestly don't believe UK could have really found anyone better willing to take the job at the moment. Also I think his style fits Stoops philosophy more than an air raid guy. I think 750k a year is too much money, but that seems to be the trend at the moment. All in all I would welcome him as the next OC.

By the way I said he's a decent computer, so I have no idea where the south Florida recruiting you mentioned came from. But I'll take it. :)

All I can think about is we could have possibly had Lincoln Riley last year but brother Bob Stoops snatched him up and look where they are now. So this year we're seemingly settling for Gran and probably going to overpay because he's the best we can get right now. Sigh...sounds like UK football at its finest. If he is who we get I'll support him through thick and thin the best I can but I can't help but think what if....

All those years experience as an RB coach in the SEC is the mindset you will get from Gran. He wants to line it up and run at you up the gut, but is now doing so with some spread principles mixed in.

He had one of the best WR groups in the country this year, but outside of Shaq Washington setting records in the slot there wasn't much to write home about in the passing game. On the ground the most talented RB on the roster was 3rd on the depth chart and was part of a self platoon between a senior that couldn't bust one more than 10 yards and a junior that had issues in pass protection and protecting the football.

I won't get in to the Gunner Kiel issues other than to say he went from 31 TDs and 13 TOs last year to a guy that was a Pick 6 magnet in year 2.

There is unfortunately little imagination in his scheme, with most of what you will see being a run up the A gap, a check down to hopefully an excellent slot guy that can create space or simple go routes on the outside. The TE has been a non factor and there simply aren't many times you think "Damn that one was drawn up really well". If there is a ton of talent in place, it will work at a decent clip.

I don't think his first 3 years at UC maximized the talent on hand, and in a lot of ways guys were schemed out of any productivity for long stretches. I think UK has less talent than UC at the skill positions and obviously plays in a much tougher league. On the surface that's a terrible recipe for success...

Everything inside me hopes that you're wrong.

But I know your expertise, & fear that you're correct.

You obviously have more experience with him than I do but the numbers about the offense that he runs speaks for itself. You also would have to agree his offense numbers are better than the previous OC's numbers at UK considering he never was the one calling the plays. Which means zero's in every column. With your knowledge, who is a better hire for UK that is attainable for UK to get in your opinion?
