I'm not an expert on every offensive assistant in the nation, but at 750K for 2 or 3 years guaranteed I'm guessing a lot of guys would be very interested. Stoops is likely to go with a guy he knows well from his time at FSU that has proven to be a decent but not great play caller against defenses on the AAC level. It's a safe hire. Is it a good one? We'll see...

Every offensive assistant in the G5 would jump off a bridge for that type of raise. You want a name? Pick one, and they would jump at the opportunity to double or triple their salary with a multi year guarantee. That's all I'm saying. Gran is a safe move with minimal upside.

 

Maybe Stoops feels safe and predictable is what he needs after hiring Air Raid guys that couldn't produce. I think it's a bad fit, but I am typically wrong once every couple years on here...

While I completely agree that 750k is too much money, but that seems to be the current trend. Even if UK did garner interest from a more qualified OC or a promising up and comer, a more likely scenario than said coach taking the UK job would be said coach getting a raise from their current employer. If that scenario played out Stoops would be putting himself in a position to strike out.

 

While Gran may not be the best candidate that would show interest, I seriously doubt UK would be able to pull anyone away from a prominent football school.

Somehow I don't think everyone is attainable and/or available. Time will tell and I do think comfort is a factor for Stoops.

There isn't a G5 school in the country that can pay that much with a multi year guarantee for an assistant. It just doesn't work with the gap the P5 is enforcing financially. UC is at the top of the G5 food chain financially right now, and couldn't/wouldn't come close to matching that offer...

I don't doubt that your right about that. But again, that would bring up the question of who else could UK have pulled from the G5 schools that has proven experience and would be a better hire?

 

I'm not saying your wrong, I just honestly do not know who else is out there that has some experience and would fit into Stoops system, that would be a better hire. On top of that you would still have to fine someone willing to come into a bad situation, that could potentially ruin their career.
