I'll meet you halfway. The first one, absolutely. Last year? I thought you had a legit shot against Mason if you both reached the final. When they got knocked off, the trophy was as good as yours.

 

Camels beat a very good Montgomery County team in the finals that first year.

3 starters returned and 2 others got in A LOT of games. I doubt they were just in blow outs.

 

I was at every game last year. Neither measner nor bertsch played any real varsity minutes. All their action was in mop-up mode.

Wilson, McGovney, and Hegyi are obvious, but the other 2 starters and the group off the bench don't have a lot of varsity experience. You can doubt all you want but you weren't there.

How did Dixie do?

There are a few good players walking the halls that could help.

 

If they have the talent to play, but are walking the halls instead of running up and down the floor, they may have other talents that would cause more problems than what their athletic ability is worth.

Agree 100%. Even Coach Norman Dale respected Jimmie Chitwood's desires to walk the halls until he made the personal decision he wanted to play.

I just typed a long response to a post in this thread, and it is impossible to do without looking like you're being negative to a kid, so I deleted it.

 

Let's just say this, I watched every dribble of the CovCath vs Camels JV game this Tuesday. Every dribble.

And the point remains that they returned 3 starters. It's not unique. It can't be used as an excuse.

 

Boone's entire varsity roster played JV last year.

 

CCH returned 2 players who saw significant varsity minutes.

One varsity starter didn't even dress JV.

 

Returning 3 starters is a nice position to be in.

Well BirdBrain I don't have a dog in the fight at CC. I don't have any family past or present at CC. I have just watched the CC ignore talented kids for kids who have been anointed the best players. I'm not suggesting a coaching change just an adjustment in philosophies.

 

Evan Zumwalde is a Jr at CC that is buried on JV and never see the varsity floor. IMO he has the most perimeter talent at CC. He hit the mid range jump shot off the dribble going in either direction. He can finish at the rim with either hand and knock down the 3 from 23 feet, but he doesn't get to play varsity.

 

There is also a big man Brad Geiman who could help on varsity. Picture Matt Wilson in a Hi-Lo set with another 6'7 big man.

Sorry to ask a different qstn for this thread. How did Dixie do?

 

Dixie played well. CC offered different defensive looks -- mainly 3-2 zone but more man than I would have expected -- but Dixie's offense adjusted and shot well from behind the arc while CC struggled to get good looks from outside. Matt Wilson is, well, Matt Wilson, but Jones and Bradfield played hard and managed to limit his touches here and there rather than focusing on stopping him once he had the ball.

Y'know, CovCath seems to have experienced one or two recent seasons where they had strong guard play, no classic big man, and only moderate team speed -- and they've been successful because of hard work, team intelligence, and strong buy-in. That's what Dixie is trying this year and it should earn them some respect.

Well I've heard the complaints of players and students about unfair treat in CC schools... So I have observed over the past 4 seasons the truthfulness in their complaints.
