If a team can take away the quick throw to him, Dalton doesn't have people like Jones or Eifert to throw to who he trust who can get open quick. In the past Dalton had other options so could still get rid of it fast, and that hid the lines problems.

Dalton doesn't have TIME to go through his progressions and hit a 2nd or 3rd read because of the o line, d lineman are arriving at Andy just behind the shotgun snap a lot of times this year!!

It doesn't mean it'll happen, but that's the pace they are on. Dalton has been very good at finding multiple receivers for several years now... he simply hasn't had time. I'm wondering if there are injuries to some of our O-line guys that aren't being made public... really only lost Smith and the Center and Guards have been worse than the Tackles... And obviously they miss Eiffert badly... but that kid has been a walking injury since he's been in the league. I don't think he's ever played an entire season, probably never more than 10 games in a season... so, why can't they make the adjustments while he's out... It has to be a combination of new OC, rookie at tackle, Whit getting older and Center and guards stink... But I'm confident Dalton will be fine as well as his WR's... their timing will improve if the O-line gives them time.

We'll agree to disagree on whether Dalton is good at second and third reads... yes, he's been known for quick decisions and a quick release... and that's a good thing. The point is...and you seem to be in agreement... the O-line doesn't allow Dalton enough time to read a second or third option... It's hard to say, Dalton has never been good at reading a second or third option when everyone agrees that his line has never really given him a lot of time..(although this season has been far worse in the time area than ever before). And the stats bear out... Dalton for a career has thrown for a lot of yards and a lot of TD's to guys not named Green... Is Dalton a Brady? No... Is Dalton good enough to win Playoff games and a Super Bowl if guys around him are simply doing their job? Yet to be seen, but my inclination is to say yes... Dalton doesn't need the best O-line in football, but he needs a solid one that makes few mistakes... Look at the Dallas O-line... Bengals would be incredibly productive on offense with a line even close to that one.

And we all know it goes hand in hand... some teams run to set up the pass, some teams pass to set up run and screen plays... Bengals can't seem to do any of it... and as you pointed out, whether running or passing, you can't do much of anything when defenses are in your backfield in one second...

Which they have to get figured out.

Here's my question for you, because some of what you've said is confusing... You said Dalton has never been good at 2nd and 3rd reads yet at the same time you are saying that Dalton's quick decisions and quick release has hidden the O-lines' problems... So aren't you saying Dalton doesn't have time to find 2nd or 3rd options? Isn't that a lot different than not being good at it?
October 16, 20169 yr ^^^^ Guess we agree then... Dalton is good at second and third reads if he's given the time... Fact is, he's rarely been given the time...especially this season, for what is surely a combination of circumstances.
