The Bengals offensive line...now we get to see the warts

Featured Replies

This OL doesn't produce many rushing yards because your TB thinks he's AP and wants to juke guys in the hole and get's tackled going horizontally instead of vertically.

Someone tell Hill to go north/south and get yards. This team can win with defense/specials if he gets 30 carries and 150 yards.

It's probably because they have ran the ball much more out of the gun this year than last with him, and out of the gun he is already running horizontal to the line and not north and south. Last year they were in the I more and in college lsu was in power running formations.

It is probably bc they are not physical enough to have a power game. Their interior is HORRIBLE. Less than 2 YPC. How can they win in the playoffs being 1 dimensonal? Dalton is not good enough to win like tgat, McCarron isn't right now either.

With this exact same line last year was physical enough to be the 6th best rushing offense in the NFL. However last year as I said they ran mostly power plays, this year they do a lot of runs out of the gun...

Not today. They have done a lot of I and a ton of trapping. AGAIN, big 3rd and 4th and ones and getting no push with Huitt, not even getting a chance to throw an iso block. The line sucks.

You just Stated the problem. You are right they have tried to do more power stuff TODAY. However they really haven't all year. Running game just like a passing game needs a lot of work and timing, etc.

I mean it really may be that they just all forgot how to run block this year. However considering they were 6th in the NFL with this same line last year. You have to assume that the scheme they used this year is a big part of the problem.

Sorry, but the biggest difference I am seeing is Jeremy Hill 2014 version was hungry, excited to prove he belongs in the NFL and hit the holes full speed and then looked for his cuts. Jeremy Hill 2015 version is dancing behind the line and consistently late hitting openings. Not going deep in the playoffs without AD and Jackson thinking he needs to run a controlled ground first offense. IMO

I don't care about last year. I am watching this year. This isn't a timing issue. This is Bodie with a man over him issue. This is winning 1 on 1 battles consistently. This is Bowling not picking up his inside. This is a team that on 3rd and one, can not convert on the run far too often. This team may fancy itself as the Pats, but Dalton can't consistently do it in a 1 dimensional offense. This team has to be able to run the ball and move chains. It sucks to watch mainly 2 guys deficiencies sabotage an offense.

Your example of Boling not picking up the inside or whiffing when he pulls today can go back to reps and practicing it and doing it. Teams who are good running teams are teams who do it all the time and make that their identity. The Bengals made that their identity last year and practiced and ran it all the time and that that mindset. This year their identity from the very first game was to pass the ball and spread it around to all its weapons out of the gun. Which is why Gio didn't look to well last year in the power game but has looked really good in the running game out of the gun.

It's not something where you just day well we havent done it all year, but were going to be a power running team today and I expect it to look great. If it was that easy all teams could. Like it or not their identity is a passing team this year and needs their weapons healthy. They are a team who needs to use the pass to set up the run this year.

I am beginning to believe you MT. The OL was AWFUL today in the run game. They will have to run the ball with AJ at QB, they didn't today.

You can sugar coat it all you want. Even in the stretch zone you move side step lateral and then down the line and at an angle. That isn't much different than what he does when he isn't shaded. As for pulling, are you saying he wife bc they haven't done that much all year? He whiffed bc he was too high and attacked Bowman's down field shoulder w his head was say over his toes. That is bad technique on a blocking pattern that guards begin doing as soon as they begin playing guard. He just missed. Isolated as 1 play it is not a big deal. However this type of stuff is a pattern, so it is a big deal.

Whiffed

was way over

Tackles aren't the issue besides Smith being hurt too much. The issue starts with the Center. He just can't handle the bull rush.

Nailed that prediction.

When the skill guys like Green and Eifert are healthy they don't HAVE to run the ball to do well. Just like last year when Dalton had maybe his worst season, he didn't have weapons to throw too, even though he had a running game. Yesterday Eifert was out and Green was hurting and basically a decoy. Plus the running game failed. If the skill guys are healthy, I really think you all are underestimating how easier that will make a qbs job. McCarron has shown he can make the throws, but I will admit the line has to give him a half second more than Dalton. Dalton hid the line problems with his quick realease and we do miss that.

If you think we will win with AJ throwing the ball as much as AD that would not be likely. He is what he is, basically a 1st year starter having played 7 quarters. Teams will continue to stop the run, but the Bengals will have to run it 60%, either successfully or not, to open the field enough for McCarron.

I have no idea how people think McCarron is anywhere near a good starting NFL QB. It is the

backup syndrome I guess.

If we get behind by 2 scores, I don't think he can bring us back because defenses will do what the Steelers did and that is change coverages at the last second. He just didn't and still probably won't recognize them in have to passing situations.

AD was better last year by a long shot than McCarron is now. AD had NO healthy receievers the last half of the season besides Sanu.

Your last sentence says it all. The Bengals were run first last year even with AD because of injuries to skill guys. Just like the were yesterday because of injuries to skill guys and the 49ers were suppose to be horrible against the run.

I base my opinion on him by what I see. As for last year Dalton really didn't look good last year and almost threw more picks than touchdowns. So that is a push to say he was better. Especially when McCarron already has shown he may be a more accurate passer on intermediate to deep routes.

You also do realize the McCarron didn't even take a snap running in practice the week of the Steelers with the first team. The Bengals and McCarron has even stated that. So no surprise they fooled him bad on the first pick. After that they didn't really fool him.
