I am not trying to spoil the finish but I will say that with the formula being used It is going to be tough to beat out Highlands or Trinity for number one. However, I think there is a chance Mayfield may end up number one because of all their runner-up finishes.

I think Highlands is a more likely number one than Trinity. Same number of titles, and I'm pretty sure that Highlands has more runner-up and district title wins. Trinity didn't really excel at football until the seventies.

#33 is a pretty good showing for LexCath especially since the school only just completed their 25th season of football.

They only have three titles - 1961, 1967, and a tie with Thomas Jefferson in 1971.

Psych---The '68 Trinity team would resemble that remark.

In case of a tie, it would not take long for the decision to be made as to who advances because most games don't end in a tie on the last play, so winner could be announced at end of game.

1965 Erlanger Lloyd and Mt Sterling tied at 13. Lloyd was declared winner.

 

Next week Lloyd tied Fleming Neon at 13. Lloyd declared winner again.

 

Next week Lloyd won the state title over My Old Kentucky Home. 27-0.

 

(BTW, Boyle lost to My Old KY Home in the Regional 13-7 in the Rebels first playoff appearance.)

 

Interestingly enough, OKHHS' best player ever did not play on that team. Herbie Phelps had graduated two years prior. Despite all of Bardstown's illustrious history on the gridiron, OKH was the first local school in the Bardstown/Nelson Co. area to make it to the state finals. Bardstown won the title two years later.

The '90s were just so bad for Frankfort. The lack of a state championship hurt them too.
