A lot of what makes him so valuable is his defense, if that starts to slide at all you have an average fielder who hits .270 and drives in 60 runs for $23M. You are getting the majority of his prime at least.

At this point, it's hard for me to question much the Cubs do.

Some of the comments on Twitter to him from the "best fans in baseball" are shocking even by social media standards.

Braves fans still love him, if that matters lol

And the Cards offered over 200 mil... Took less to play for Cubs. It sucks that he went to Chicago but taking less to not play for STL is hilarious and awesome.

Potential lineup....

1. Jason Heyward, CF

2. Ben Zobrist, 2B

3. Anthony Rizzo, 1B

4. Kris Bryant, 3B

5. Kyle Schwarber, LF

6. Jorge Soler, RF

7. Miguel Montero, C

8. Addison Russell, SS

Hopefully they'll flip Soler for a controllable pitcher and move Heyward to RF and sign a cheap CF till Almora or Baez is ready to be the everyday CF.

On Twitter he's a "trader" :lol2:

Montero is on his last leg, but that's a solid lineup. Especially, if they keep Soler and he lives up to his expectations.

Cubs should trade Soler and prospects for a another stud SP and they would be WS favorites.

I don't think the Cubs are done. They're all in on this year it seems.

Love the Heyward signing but I want to keep Soler. No reason to move him unless you have to. They signed Lackey to help solidify pitching depth for a couple more seasons and Hendricks is not a bad fourth arm. They also turned Castro into a good arm in Warren so I think they should hold off on moving Soler. He was injured a lot last year and was a monster after getting called up the season before. I think they should at least see what they have I think he could be a stud.

And to be honest Heyward shouldn't have a problem playing center at wrigley. Soler probably wouldn't either.

I honestly don't get the fascination with Heyward, especially at that price.

To amplify on above post, I also don't understand the numbers Heyward attracted. Excellent defensive outfielder, but he doesn't hit many HRs and only drove in 60 last year despite hitting in middle of lineup for much of the season. Seriously, his offensive output won't be that difficult for Cards to replace. Replacing what else he brings to game will be more problematic. This move opens up right for Piscotty. As an aside, I wonder whether Heyward had an issue or two with Matheny.

Same here.
