Cubs reportedly land Heyward..

Some of the comments on Twitter to him from the "best fans in baseball" are shocking even by social media standards.

@SRoethemeyer12

I hope you tear your ACL @JasonHeyward

I'm a Cardinals fan and it is crazy what some are posting. I wish we could have signed him but it was steep but MO is going to have to do something.

I'm indifferent I guess. I hate giving up all that money and it doesn't really fix our issue of needing a CF. Sure, he can play it but he's more of a corner outfielder. I don't think we're done and look for Soler to be moved now. Maybe they're thinking of moving Baez to CF?

Twitter buzz was move Solar for a SP and resign Fowler to play CF.

That's a sick lineup...

I've been a Cardinal fan since 1967. I've learned since free agency was introduced to no longer to become attached to any certain player. I'm just a fan of the team itself whoever is on it.

I have a man crush on Fowler :lol2:

I agree. But do hate it when a favorite leaves like Pujols did. When he left it made most Cardinal fans realize anybody could and would leave.

I didn't hate it. I liked having Pujols as a Cardinal but if he didn't want to stay more power to him. I said it then and I'll say it again. Now we get to see how good those young players the Cardinals have are.

8 Years $184 Million :eek:

Not too bad for 26 year old

Cubs To Sign Jason Heyward - MLB Trade Rumors

1:47pm: Heyward’s contract does indeed contain the option to opt out early, reports MLB Network’s Peter Gammons (Twitter link). However, he can opt out not only once, but twice, per Gammons. ESPN Chicago’s Jesse Rogers reports (also on Twitter) that the first opt-out clause comes three years into the contract, meaning Heyward can hit the open market entering his age-29 season if he chooses.

1:35pm: Bob Nightengale of USA Today hears it’s an eight-year, $184MM deal for Heyward (Twitter link) — an annual value of $23MM.

A lot of what makes him so valuable is his defense, if that starts to slide at all you have an average fielder who hits .270 and drives in 60 runs for $23M. You are getting the majority of his prime at least.

Wow.

Worth more than Votto per year.
