December 4, 201510 yr Same here, GT. I still remember riding my bike to Phil's Records to buy a couple of their albums. He was rode hard and put away wet. With all the substance abuse he was well known for over the years, it's kind of a wonder that he made it this far in life.

December 4, 201510 yr Saw them at Wright St. on the Purple tour, and one other time at a festival I don't recall much about (it was the '90s). My buddy had tickets to see the sans Weiland version in L'ville several weeks ago and asked if I wanted to. Told him to get rid of them. I'd already seen the real article, and it was fantastic. I only wish I'd been one of the lucky few to have been at those random surprise shows where they came out dress as KISS.
December 4, 201510 yr This is one of those deaths I just always kind of expected, unfortunately. He was so out of control for so long, and never seemed to be able to get his demons under control. I picked up "Purple" on vinyl earlier this week, and I'll be spinning it tonight.

December 4, 201510 yr Stone Temple Pilots was one of my favorite bands growing up. Scott Weiland was an amazing singer, especially in the 90s. At his peak, STP was one of the best bands I saw live and I've seen MANY between now and then. Rest in peace Scott Weiland, definitely a sad day for fans of him and the band.
December 4, 201510 yr I bought their greatest hits just a couple weeks ago on a whim (even though I have all the albums) and have been listening to it for several days. News of his death isn't surprising, but isn't good either. Hate it.

December 4, 201510 yr STP was the band in the 90's that got me listening to modern rock again. They had an edge, and were hard, but still poppy enough to get radio play. Probably my favorite band from the 90's. Don't listen to them much anymore, but will be listening to a few songs today.
