Funny how it hasn't been mentioned, but is it possible that the reason there were no issues on the SK sidelines is because their athletes focused on the game, and did not taunt the crowd. There's no mention of this ever being an issue at SK prior to this game, so where there's smoke, there's usually fire.

You can look at that the other way too... perhaps the Lafayette fans didn't engage the SK sideline?

It's very hard for me -- and I think most people -- to believe that athletes would first engage fans if there were no provocation. As we all know, incidents like this are not at all uncommon in the world of sports, and 99% of the time it is started with fans, though 100% of the time it is wrong for either side.

Say what you will about SK's placement of benches, but we wouldn't be having this conversation if they followed the norm (and apparently, the rule).

Now that it has become an issue, I wonder if KHSAA will continue to allow SK to put the visting bench in front of the home fans??

I don't really understand what's going on? Anyone who has played at SK knows they clearly have the visiting stands on the SK players side of the field. The visitor bleachers are half the size of the home fan bleachers. The SK band is set up on the home side. If this is illegal why does SK keep doing it? and why are they allowed to keep doing it? Does the KHSAA mock itself by turning aside? I truly don't understand what's going on. How do visiting coaches allow this to keep happening to them?

Until posted here, how many people actually knew it was a rule?

I'm guessing that when a school only has one set of bleachers the home team can have their bench on either side ???

Cant speak for everyone else, but I did, but I am a former AD.

schools with one set of bleachers for all fans will usually dictate seating areas for band, students, and fans for both teams. Not saying that those seating arrangements are followed, but if there are pockets of fans that are getting out of control, then administration &/or law enforcement comes into play @ that point. The goal should be an enjoyable event for everyone win or lose, but some forget that it is a game.

SK should be ashamed of themselves.

I would hope after all this talk about the home and visitors stands, SK will change how they have them....... But crybabies will fight it, saying "tradition".

They just changed to the visitor side not to long ago. They use to have their bench on the home side.

I can't remember when they started but it's been less than 10 years.
