November 22, 201510 yr Miami had 7 players drafted last year, same as Alabama. Only 3 schools had more. They'll have some more this year. Talent is fine. Depth could be better, but sanctions and the entire region of South Florida being neglected in recruiting will do that. More than everyone in the ACC not named FSU and Clemson. Not the same job it was 10 years ago but a good coach could win there. Les Miles would win there, no question about it.
November 22, 201510 yr Other than playing in a big time conference with an easy division and being located in the most talent rich area in the US, not to mention the fact that Miami has/had the talent to win right now, I guess you're right.... I don't get it, they had what 7 players drafted last year? The right guy will reboot the program
November 22, 201510 yr I don't get it, they had what 7 players drafted last year? The right guy will reboot the program IF they hire the right guy, which history shows they won't. It's not an easy job, but it's not impossible. Fans and full stadiums are not part of the deal at Miami, never have been. But when there is that much talent in the city, you've got to win. Golden did a lot of great things at Miami but he was not a fit schematically or with the recruiting scene.
November 22, 201510 yr Biggest issue with Miami is that the school is no longer supporting or being held hostage by the football team. Facilities are pitiful, stadium is a 45 minute bus ride from campus they said on TV last week, they haven't been willing to pay much for a coach. Yes they are surrounded by talent but it is harder and harder to win without the full support at the highest levels from the administration at any school.

I have a feeling once the right guy If he got hired came and was successful, the "fans" would migrate back to south beach. Going to be a fun offseason with all the jobs and possible jobs though
November 22, 201510 yr Les is a great recruiter, great developer of talent, but one thing has plagued him throughout his tenure, the lack of a quarterback. They win a lot of games based on overall talent and depth, but to win the big games you have to have a QB and he has struggled with QB play since he has been there. Sometimes situations just get stale and I think LSU has become stale with Les. If I were him I would leave this second and take the SC job. Not sure they would offer him, but it would be a win win for both. Change of scenery for Les and SC finally gets away from the Carroll disciples.
November 22, 201510 yr I have a feeling once the right guy If he got hired came and was successful, the "fans" would migrate back to south beach. Going to be a fun offseason with all the jobs and possible jobs though College sports are about recruiting. It's hard to recruit based on being "The U" because kids now a days don't know what the U is. What kid wants to go play in a dump of a stadium, horrible facilities, and a program that hasn't been good in 13 years? Especially when FSU and Florida are right there too.
November 22, 201510 yr The draft usually does and will disagree with you. Talent is there, sparse in some places but it would not be inconceivable for them to win 9-10 games and the Coastal next season. This isn't last year when they choked away a bunch of talent. You think they get 7 guys drafted again??? :lol2:

November 22, 201510 yr Don't know, haven't look at draft projections. Probably not that many but they'll have a handful or so. Always do. It takes a LOT more than having a few NFL guys sprinkled around the roster. While it makes life a little easier, the job is still a disaster. You'll figure it out one of these days... :idunno:
November 22, 201510 yr It takes a LOT more than having a few NFL guys sprinkled around the roster. While it makes life a little easier, the job is still a disaster. You'll figure it out one of these days... :idunno: A few NFL guys? Miami has one of the most talented rosters in their conference. May be incomplete in some spots (DT for one), but this is a good roster that has a lot of guys with the potential to play in the league. That's what this discussion is...talent, and they have it. Now if you want to discuss the other parts of the job which are not competitive with the big boys have at it, but if you published that Miami didn't have the talent to win a lot more than they have the past ten years you'd be laughed off the internet. Lots of problems at Miami this decade, talent is not one of them.

So now you are running from all the other claims you made and going back to talent, which in case you quickly forgot, is the only thing I said Miami has going for it? I will go slow since you don't seem to get it. The Miami job has one advantage. Outside of being in the hottest spot in the country for talent, they have exactly zero else going for them. Good luck. I'll explain it again in 2 or 3 years when they are back on the market for another coach that can't win with a few NFL guys on the roster...

Location is irrelevant if you don't get any of those players. FIU, SMU, etc. are in a great location but don't have the players. At Miami, next year they have the talent to win their division. Dispute that if you want, but a good coach would win there dispite the disadvantages. Maybe they wouldn't stay, but coaches never have there. Fans have never consistently filled the stadium. Shalala is gone and that was the biggest hurdle Miami had to overcome, or at least one of them.
