He owns the next three highest seasonal averages at 44.8 ppg, 38.4 PPG and 37.6 PPG The next closest? Michael Jordan with 37.1 in the 1986-87 season. If Shaq could shoot 70% from the line, he would've had some seasons of averaging way up in the 30's, as well. How many would he have averaged if there were no other seven footers around?

However, Sam Dalembert can run the floor like a wing player and Pittsnoggle would have no chance to keep up. Now in a half court set it would be easier, although I can't imagine him being quick enough to keep Sam off the glass, but no way in an up and down game can he stay with Dalembert. Pittsnoggle is a poor man's Matt Bullard. Nothing more, nothing less.

But how many teams in the NBA play the up-tempo game? Dallas & Phoenix are the only two I can think of off the top of my head. Anyway, enough about Pittsnogle.......What about another WVU alum, Mike Gansey? By the way, I am not a WVU fan, but I really thought these guys were late 2nd rounders at least.

I'd say Pittsnoggle has a long way to go before I drop the "poor man's" comparison. ============================ I was a little shocked that Gansey wasn't drafted. Bilas had him as the best available player at about the top of the 2nd round, which then made me even more shocked he didn't get selected.

Bilas is very intelligent. He went to Duke. He has his law degree.

June 30, 200620 yr There is no way of proving any of that. But one point on Shaq's free throw shotting. For about the lats 10 years of his career in final minutes of a game how often is shaq on the floor. Maybe 30 second for a offense defense substitution. That right that might have cost him a title/game. So missing free throws down the stretch really isn't the issue. Its he isn't in the game to miss them that is the issue. Just because he hasn't missed any to lose a game does mean other ones he missed in the game didn't count. 1 point in the first minute is the same as 1 point in the last minute. In my opinion Shaq has only had three years where you could even say he could have won a championship. He wasn't going to win one when he was young and Jordan was in the league. He was outplayed by Hakeem, they weren't as good as the Pistons when he was with the Lakers, and the best player on his team was hurt for game 7 of the Eastern conference finals. Free throws had nothing to do with those years. Once again Shaq cares about winning titles. Bad shooting never stopped him from that.

I think Shaq has won exactly how many titles he should have. This year, Dallas seemed to be better than Miami, but Wade was the difference. Dallas couldn't perform when the pressure was high (see 4th quarter), while Wade rose to another level. Other than that, Detroit was clearly better than LA. The Lakers supporting cast was non-existent. Malone was injured, Payton was terrible, and the others couldn't do a thing. They basically focused on stopping Shaq in the post and frustrating Kobe. When he played for Orlando, he was once again on an inferior team.
June 30, 200620 yr He couldn't guard any of those guys. Pittsnogle didn't get drafted because he is the slowest person in the continental United States. I'm 6'2" 240 and I am pretty sure he couldn't guard me because I'm too quick. I'm pretty sure I quit listening to the words that come out of your mouth weeks ago.
June 30, 200620 yr Some of the slowest guys in the league have been the best rebounders (i.e. Charles Oakley, Rick Mahorn, Shaq, etc). Defense is all effort and feel for the game, rebounding is position and being physical. Speed can be improved and effort is self-taught. Pittsnogle can guard lots of NBA centers/power forwards, but none of the top tier centers. He has 20% body fat I'm sure his speed would increase if he worked on that.

Michael Olowakandi - Celtics Jason Collins - Nets Samuel Dalembert - 76ers Loren Woods - Raptors This is just the Atlantic Division......Their aren't a lot of gifted offensive centers in the NBA (want to argue that???). Pittsnogle can't guard Shaq, Duncan, KG, or even Zo, I know this. But the game doesn't have as many true low-post scoring threats as it did in the 80s & 90s. IMO, the upside of his shooting and being able to get his shot off (by being 7 foot) negates his lack of D. BTW......Before you say no NBA GMs agree with me, save your breath. It's quite obvious they do not. But I will say that while I'm no Jerry West, if I couldn't be a better GM than Isiah Thomas I wouldn't come out of my house. Chances are he will be signed and make a roster. There are plenty of 6'10 or taller role players in the NBA, and Pittsnogle and can be points off the bench.

June 30, 200620 yr Go back and watch Grittsnogle play UC. He was running for cover every time Hicks had the ball under the basket. If you can't defend a 6'4" C that didn't get drafted, you spend draft day next to a phone that doesn't ring...
