June 30, 200620 yr I agree. I think Shaq has won exactly how many titles he should have. This year, Dallas seemed to be better than Miami, but Wade was the difference. Dallas couldn't perform when the pressure was high (see 4th quarter), while Wade rose to another level. Other than that, Detroit was clearly better than LA. The Lakers supporting cast was non-existent. Malone was injured, Payton was terrible, and the others couldn't do a thing. They basically focused on stopping Shaq in the post and frustrating Kobe. When he played for Orlando, he was once again on an inferior team. My thoughts are that if he shot 70% from the line, his teams might have won 5-10 extra games during the regular season, which could have made them a higher seed or have home court advantage during the playoffs, which might have led to more opportunities. My second point is that he has missed 5,678 free throws in his career (6,243/11,921). If he shoots 70%, he would have added another 2,000-2,500 points onto his career totals.

And how many times at the end of a game has he not been in there. A lot and thats because of his free throw shooting. He may not have missed many in that game(games that it applys to) but him not being in there hurts his team a lot.

I think his inability to shoot from the stripe is a major factor in the outcome of games.

You have to factor in things like: - he couldn't be intentionally fouled anymore - so what happens on all those plays that were prevented because of the Hack-a-Shaq? - there wouldn't be all of those rebounds of which many turned into fastbreaks for the other team - every time he caught the ball in the post, he would have most likely at least scored one point - he would've actually been in the game during crucial times because the other team couldn't afford to just foul him every time There are a lot of factors that would be different, IMO.

Other than this year, Shaq hasn't been benched late in games. They just left him in in most games. You do make several good points and this is a well thought out post. I do understand your points too, but none of means that Shaq would have won another title.
