So, two 9th region teams in the top 3 and no 11th region team in the top 10. With Dunbar, Lafayette, and Henry Clay, the 11th's top 3 teams are better than the 9th's top 3. NCC in the top 5?????

 

And while I like seeing a second 12th region team listed, you've listed the third best team in the 12th region as the 8th best team in the state.

 

You have made some valid points, however I have not seen anything from those 11th Region teams to suggest they will be relevant come Tournament time.... Southwestern was a very young team last year that upset a lot of teams people thought they shouldn't (their place in my Top 10 is with Fitzgerald and Butts there. If they are no longer there, that changes). Cov Cath and NCC are VERY WELL coached, and are factors every year come tournament time. They have the experience and the coaching to always be a factor.

Southwest will be very good as they have a lot of talent and balance. They are very deep. But realize that they lost 2 significant starters - their senior PG, leading scorer and best player in Adam Isaacs as well as their only size and imposing post presence in Gaskin.

Did you watch the game video? It was much more about Taylor Co looking disengaged than Eastern looking good. We can revisit this in March, but I'd bet the family farm that Eastern isn't a factor.

Don't be surprised if Lawrence Co comes out of nowhere and cracks the top 10. LC has never made the Sweet 16. If they don't make it this year they might never make it. Team loaded with scorers and can run. Sr Robert Dalton can throw it down 360, reverse ball down to the ankles etc. Extremely athletic. Jr Timmy Dalton is good enough to put up in the 30's some nights. Sr QB Grant Kiser gives stability. Sr Brandon Richardson can drop 20+ a night. Sr Austin Chaffins can also drop points in the 20-30 range. This team will be fun to watch this year. Should be LC's best team ever I think.

 

There aren't enough available basketballs or minutes in a game for all those guys to put up those kind of points. Can they play defense is the real question, because that's what gets you in the top 10.

Taylor County lacks depth and size.... Two things you need as the season progresses. They will be very good, but IMO have a few weaknesses that may keep them from a State Title.

I agree. Taylor County is certainly good enough to win a state title if they win their region. I think it would take a favorable draw for them to win it all.

SW also lost Hunter Cromer (JR.) guard. A good shooter(52% from 3) and good defender. Sw has some good shooters to replace him but they will miss the defense some. It hurts their depth as well.

As Sean Miller says a lot, in a post-season game, give me the team with the best back-court. I certainly don't think Taylor Co. is a lock to need scissors at Rupp, but hard for me to pick against them on November 18th.

I think depth is vastly overrated in terms of post season success. It is not uncommon for a team to use a 6 player rotation and win the state, and more often than not the champion uses 7 or less in their rotation.
