November 16, 201510 yr Author Frontal air bags are generally designed to deploy in "moderate to severe" frontal or near-frontal crashes, which are defined as crashes that are equivalent to hitting a solid, fixed barrier at 8 to 14 mph or higher. (This would be equivalent to striking a parked car of similar size at about 16 to 28 mph or higher.) Just researched it a little...must have enough of a deceleration force (loss of velocity) to initiate electro/mechanical sensors. Technically you could hit something going 500 mph, but if you're still doing 495 mph immediately after the impact, the airbags aren't going to deploy...which if you think about it is a good thing.
November 16, 201510 yr I hit one on I75 in north Georgia with the cruise control set on 72 in a Kia Soul. Killed the deer and a the car. So thankful that the airbags did not deploy and instruct my view at that rate of speed, along with throwing the deer into the windshield. Told my wife that this could have really been bad and thankful of the outcome.
November 16, 201510 yr I once took care of a woman who swerved to miss a deer. She ended up hitting a tree and was a quadrapalegic. On a lighter note, my husband once hit a deer on the expressway. It hit his windshield and rolled over the top of his car. A guy with a truck stopped. His first question was "are you ok?" His second was, "Do you mind if I take that deer?" He had a winch and pulled that deer right up on his truck. Glad to hear your daughter is OK. Always scary when you get those calls!
November 16, 201510 yr Doesn't look like the air bag came out? I hit a deer doing 60 and the air bag never game out. It did 8 grand worth of damages to my car and ran off plus broke my ribs i nailed the steering wheel. It is deer season be careful driving at night and in the am.60? That's a fast deer.:walk:

Slow down to avoid them. Do NOT leave your lane. It's a deer. I know it's one of God's creatures, but the car will take it. I can replace a dysfunctional car.
November 16, 201510 yr I am glad she is ok!! Cars can be replaced, but daughters can't. I've hit four deer so far in my driving career. Damaged a few cars, but luckily I've been unscathed.
November 17, 201510 yr A deer never hit me in my life, until about a year and a half ago, then they hit my vehicle twice within a two block area near the top of Kyles Lane. I saw one on 75's Ft. Mitchell exit last week that was hit so hard, I guess by a semi, that it was split in two large pieces. Be careful out there at dusk, night and early morning.
November 17, 201510 yr My girl hit a deer on the way to school a week or two ago. She decided to come home afterwards and call it a day. The funny part was it was the day Bill Gates was at the school. I guess she's not impressed by money. I'm glad your girl is ok. Like others have said, a car can be replaced.
November 17, 201510 yr Crazy story. When I was a kid, maybe 10 or so, my and my parents were driving home from our river camp. It was late and seat belt enforcement wasnt a big as it is today. Well, for some reason I told everyone to put our seat belts on and we all did. About 5 minutes later deer jumps out in front of us on Route 8 and we hit it. Spins our car around we slammed into the rock wall. Thankfully we all had our seat belts on but I dont like to imagine what would have happened if I never said to put em on.

What made you tell everyone to put on their seatbelts? Any ideas?
