I know that building a program is all about recruiting and getting better and better players but KY hasn't been able to get there in my lifetime. Teams that KY beat consistently like a drum when I was a kid (teams like VA Tech and Kansas St.) developed pretty strong programs. Why has KY not become stronger than it has in the last four or five decades? We seem to be getting some better players and yet we still struggle to beat teams like EKU and still seem to be closer to Vandy's level than UGA, Tenn or FLA . Is there an answer?

We're not even on Vandys level at this point in time. It's becoming depressing to be honest.

I've watched Kentucky football since the early 1960s and other than a few short stints (couple years under Fran Curci, a few years with Jerry Claiborne , the Tim Couch teams, and the bowl trips in the last part of Rich Brooks career) Kentucky has been mediocre in football. That covers about 50 years for me as a fan. About 9 decent, watchable season of football in 50 years. And mostly minor bowls when they do get one.

The sad part is UK could win the next three and it would be one of their better seasons. However with the way they are playing right now, its hard to see them winning even one.

It's almost depressing. Just when you think this program is turning the corner, a few mid level SEC teams come up on the schedule and bring you back to reality. Outside of Charlotte, and that's no give me, I can't see this team winning another game. Vandy appears to be improving as of late and so does Louisville. Frustrating to say the least.

I like the pieces UK has offensively, especially for next year as they will be veterans. OLine has to improve and probably will.

Defensively is where I agree most with your point. UK as a whole seems smaller and slower than the rest of the SEC. Due to prestige UK will probably be smaller but they have to be faster to make up for it.

Did I not just agree with that? SEC speed difference is on D. UK doesn't have that. It's the DL and LBs where Ohio's biggest deficiencies are IMO.
