Child Killed In Police Shooting Involving Child's Dad

So, did he or did he not ram their cruiser?

Hard to say. Angles of the police cars would seem to indicate they were on the driver's side of the vehicle. The investigator says he has not seen any evidence to say that they cars were rammed. Of course, he also didn't say they were not.

What appears to be known:

No active warrants out for the driver

Police cars on the side of the vehicle

All shots came through the driver's window

Kid was buckled into the front seat

The driver did not have a gun

Upto 18 shots fired into the vehicle

He was not stopped at a dead end. There was a cross street.

Both of the arrested officers are involved in an on-going use of force lawsuit.

Something doesn't pass the smell test

Must have been pretty blatant for the LSP to bring murder and attempted murder charges that quickly and make the statements that he did.

Terribly sad situation.

If I'm in the truck and I ram a cop car from 1 ft to 100ft I'm expecting to begin taking fire at any second. Comply with the police and things like this won't happen.

Had the officers know a child was in the car I doubt they discharge their weapons. With that said, how can you ask officers to react any different when their own life may be in danger.

As always I will make my final decision after watching the body camera footage.

Terribly sad situation.

Given that they were quickly charged by the State Police I'm guessing they did, in fact, expect them to react differently.

Terribly sad situation.

I'd say the fact that they were charged with murder is an indication that they were in the wrong.

A 6 year old is needlessly dead. Whether it's the cops or the father or whomever the courts deem is responsible needs to pay and pay to the fullest extent the law allows.

I didn't read all of the thread, but I scanned and didn't see this. Why the splitting of hairs about ramming a cruiser or not? Let's say someone does ram a car, and puts the officers in danger, I still don't think they should shoot into a car, if they know a child is in there. And most of the officers I know would not.

Coroner says all of the shots were from the driver's side and went through the driver's window.

The child was in the front seat next to his dad.

If all the shots went through the driver's window, shouldn't we infer that the shots were fired by officers 'beside' the car.

Or is there any evidence there were officers actually in front of the vehicle? (i.e. actually in danger of being run over)

If so wouldn't there logically be shots fired through the windshield?

Bond set at $1M.

News report says body cams show the drivers hands were up in the air when he was shot. There were no outstanding warrants.

Have any of the media outlets really discussed in depth the race of all parties involved?

Race has been mentioned at all.

More arrests are possible.

One story says that one of the officers charged had a personal grudge against the driver.

Race has been mentioned at all.

Did you mean has not?

I don't think it matters but they typically do if they think it can add fuel to the fire it seems.

Sorry. Race has NOT been mentioned at all.

The obvious fair question to ask is if would have been mentioned if the situation was reversed. Probably for another thread though.

The only article I read on it, which was the Washington Post article by Wesley Lowrey, mentioned the race of everyone.
