You clearly haven't read all most posts on this thread if you think I care about little Johnny's heart. I don't think Boone County should get to go to the playoffs cause they are winless. But you mean to tell me a Bishop Brossart at (9-1) shouldnt get to go to the playoffs cause of their strength of schedule? Come on give me a break look at the size of the school/program and who they play. Their opponents are on the weaker side in the grand scheme of things but you can't expect them to play a Scott, BW, Conner and Holmes. I like the Ohio system in the sense it breeds competition but I like the KY system because it gives a fair and legit shot to the middle of the road teams. I went to Lloyd that is the only reason I'm even speaking out for this if I would have went to a Highlands, Colerian, Trinity, BW, St. X or where ever I doubt I would care in the least bit. But I went where I did and that is my piece. Just trying to get the other side of the argument out there and have a good conversation.

Correct. You get points for your the wins of your opponents that you have beaten. Points scored are not a factor.

Just straight up enrollment determines what class they would be in Ohio and calculate accordingly.

Same. Takes the enrollment and slots it in the division they would be in Ohio.

Maybe if I have LOTS of extra time this week, I will apply the Harbins to 6A and see which 8 teams of the 32 in the class (that is laughable, by the way) would qualify based on their outcome.

I played high school ball in KY when every team DIDN'T make the playoffs. Only the top 2 teams from the district. We finished 3rd all four years in a very tough district with 6 total teams (yes, 4 teams had to go home). In the old format, I do feel like some very competitive teams were left out of the playoffs - but I can assure you, the teams that made it were damn good.

Allow me to go "old school" and say that when I played in the 1979 and 1980 seasons in 3A in NKY I think there were 7 or 8 teams. They broke the district into two sub-districts. The winner of each district met for the district championship. Some good teams got no run in the playoffs.

6 classes, IMO only top 2 in each district make it. If you go to 4 classes, current format, top 4. Just too many. Other than the famous "lock em in" process I fail to see any merit in 90% of these games. I would be ok with 3 teams, give 1 seed a bye also.

I would like to see Kentucky get rid of the crazy amount of districts we have and go to regions. Everyone plays everyone in the region and top 4 make the playoffs. Regions would be 7-9 teams. It would leave an extra week or two for teams to schedule their crosstown rivals or play in a bowl game. It would eliminate a week of the playoffs but it would make also eliminate the 1-9, 2-8 and 0-10 teams from getting in.

For those that may be interested, the OHSAA has released the state playoff pairings to begin this Friday night and continue through the first week of December.

A couple of interesting notes:

• Moeller, at 5-5, failed to make the playoffs for the first time since 2001, a string of 13 years.
  
• Division I power Cleveland St. Ignatius (11 State Titles, most in Ohio, any division) also did not qualify for the playoffs
  
• Despite the loss to Cincy LaSalle in week 3, Colerain finished with the 2nd highest Harbin total in Division I

Again, in Division I only, there are only two regions with 16 teams in each. They play in a bracketed format with no re-seeding.

 

Colerain is the #1 seed in the Southern, or R2, region which encompasses Cincinnati, Dayton and half'ish of Columbus. Ideally, the #1 seed should have the easiest path to the finals, right?

 

WRONG-O!! If the seeds play out, Colerain will have to go through both St. Xavier and Elder just to get to the state Semi's, where they will likely have to face either 10-0 Wayne (state runner-up from 2014) or Hilliard Davidson (2-time State Champ) just to earn the right to play St. Edward (defending State Champ) in the State final....WHEW!!!

 

Man, I love playoff football.

Thanks for posting Cardinals Fan. I fully admit that I am not completely sure what and how the OHSAA qualification for playoff system works but I know that some very good h.s. football is played in Ohio.

I am interested in how the Div VI team ... Lucasville Valley does seeing how my favorite KY. team, Raceland played them this season.. They have an excellent team and play the game the right way. Play hard and with class. Their coaches and particularly the fans / bgp members were good people. I am also familiar with Chesapeke, Ironton, Rock Hill and Wheelersburg in that those are a relative easy driving distance from us here in Raceland, NEKY.
