Lots of info out there suggesting otherwise. There is no question that Dr. Carson embraces Seventh-day Adventism. The question is whether or not that particular sect of Christianity meets the definition of a "cult".

Look, there is little I agree with in SDA Doctrine. That said, they are the fringe of the branches of Christianity. But they aren't the lunatic fringe. For example, without looking it up, I seem to recall the Branch Davidians (Waco) were a splinter from SDA. That would be the cult off of them.

 

Seventh Day Adventists were born out of the strains left over after the "Great Disappointment" of the Millerite Movement in the 1840's. Ellen White rose up in the ranks of forming the SDA with the leftovers and their focus was on OT rituals (Sabbath worship only) and Eschatology. (End Times Prophecy)

 

Some hold Mormons and Jehovah Witness' as cults. While out of the Judeo-Christian mainstream, they aren't looked at quite the same now as they were 40 years ago. (or 150 years ago if you are Mormon)

If you define "wacko leftists" as a cult there is ample evidence there are members posting on this very thread . Of course its all how you define a " cult" .

Romney's religion really didn't hurt him in '12, based on how well he did among evangelicals and white voters as a whole vs. Obama. Having said that, Carson is more likely to get impacted by "cult" allegations in the GOP state primaries than in the slight probability that he makes it to the general election. So the question we need to ask is how will Trump use Carson's religion to Trump's advantage?

I did, then I grew up.

I've always leaned towards SDA as well as LDS being in the area of a cult. Not a majority of them, but I think the fringe groups are cults and that a lot of people in these religions are teetering towards being a cultists.

Really, I mean really, there are many more conservatives that post than others in the political threads. They usually do the hammering. If a person takes things personally then maybe the should stay out of the convos.
