When Was The First Time You Remember Using A Computer?

Featured Replies

In the mid 80's I took a sociology class at a local college. The topic was the future and what technology would be available.

I remember the professor said that every house would have a computer and that some day we may be able to do things like banking from our own home. It seemed impossible at the time. The Internet was not in existence. How in the world could you possibly do your banking from home? Ludicrous! It amazes me what has happened in the last 30 years!

That being said, I remember our first home computer I the early 90's. You would do the dial up and leave the room for 20 minutes cause that is how long it took to get online.

Watching my kids play Oregon Trail.

One can learn a lot playing Oregon Trail.

While we had a Tandy in the mid 80s, I am pretty sure I first used an Apple II at a library before then.

I actually once owned a Mac that didn't have a hard drive.

Our Tandy didn't either.

True, I learned about many a settlers disease in that game.

Mid 80s playing Wheel of Fortune on an Apple...also remember playing an awesome Winter Olympics game on a Commodore.

I seem to recall Wolfenstein involved somehow in those days as well.

CS101 class at UK, Fall 1983.

I remember final project was to create a computer program, or write a paper on a computer related subject. Ended up writing an essay on the use of computers in major league baseball. If my info was correct, only 2 -3 teams were using them at the time. (Mets, Orioles, I think)

1987 , 7th grade, "challenge class" using a texas instruments computer.

Early Wang

That's the second worst kind.

1983/84

About the same for me.

We wouldn't call it a "computer" now, but it met the definition.

The first "real" computer I owned was a 286 around 89.
