Too add, there are some HS sites that would work, Id say 30% would be more than happy to host a neutral site game for just about any reason needed as long as their stadium is available. There is about another 20% that would do it if it really benefited them and was worth the hassle to them. There is 50% that would flat out say no before any discussions took place.

Any distance driven within the state of Kentucky for a football game is relatively short compared to some states. I grew up in Colorado and if a west slope team like Durango had to travel to Denver for a playoff for game, you are talking about a 9-10 hr drive or longer if you have to go to Loveland or north east of Denver. An average conference game trip from Durango to Grand Junction is 4 hrs.

It's about 330 miles (not really 10 hours unless it's through snow) but I get it, it's a long drive...about the same as from Beechwood to Mayfield.

You might be missing the fact at "who" is complaining, its not the fans that have issue with the travel. Its the schools, trust me I hear about it from HS AD's regular that they are glad their teams dont make deep runs in playoffs, because they cant afford for them to go.

Personally I love the semis the way they are gives a person a chance to see a tea like Highlands or Beechwood that they normally would not. Also gives underdogs a chance that they may not have on neutral field. The thing I would like to see changed is state finals being in bowling green. Makes for a long drive for teams like belfry or Johnson central when a more centrally located field would be more ideal like commonwealth or even eku. This eliminates the opportunity for some fans especially in eastern Ky to see their team in finals because they simply cannot afford the trip

Gets more people at games, I would love to go on a Saturday night after My team has played on Friday. As it is I get no opportunity to watch other teams.

I would vote neutral site. It is just fairer that way. I believe small colleges would love to host in most instances. Believe me, getting high school kids on their campus is huge. If you are Lindsey Wilson, what an advertisement for a school many high school kids have not heard about or know anything about.

 

If they got 3-5 kids they normally wouldn't, it would be worth it.

Honestly it doesn't make sense that KY doesn't play state semi-finals on a neutral field. The only reason is tradition. I would think from a revenue stand point and a competitive stand point the switch makes sense.
