State Semi finals are on the Friday after Thanksgiving each year. I think a neutral or centrally located site between Region 1 and 2 and Region 3 and 4 for each class could be found.

 

Some classes it would be easy to find a somewhat neutral site that would be closer for both teams some classes it would be harder. Ideally it would be a turf field at a college or high school not in that class.

 

So two discussions here...

1. Is this a good idea?

2. What sites could be used for each classes Semifinals looking at the regional make ups of each Class.

Currently for example in Class A you could have a team traveling from Fulton to Beechwood for a Semi Final which is 341 miles for a Semi Final game. Would a semi permanent West Region Semi Final Location in E-town, which wouldn't quite split the difference, make sense?

 

Under the last alignment Bell Co. and Paducah Tilghman could have played in the Western Semi-Final...wouldn't a central location like Glasgow or Bowling Green made more sense for that Semi-state each year?

Not as easy as you think. As someone who works with sites to host games its a challenge getting sites that want to be involved / are easy to deal with / make sense to host. Also by doing this you will take away one teams funds from concession as the neutral site will have to handle that, and in most cases they dont want to deal with it.

 

You would have a better shot at the smaller universitys than anywhere, but good luck with that over Thanksgiving Weekend.

 

I know we use Kentucky State over Thanksgiving weekend for our East West allstar game. They have been great over the years, but they just hand us keys and say call us if you need something.

Yeah there would be some issues. I don't know if it could be done, but do you think that if it could be that it would be a good idea? Texas for example plays no home games in the playoffs (at least in the classes that I checked) it doesn't look like Ohio has any home playoff games after the first round either.

Anyone complaining about having to drive to a state semifinal game to watch their team play should just stay home and listen to it on the radio. I've driven to 2 hours and 30 minutes to Bell County twice to sit, stand and freeze my butt off to watch my Rebels play for the right to go to WKU. I don't care where the Rebels are if I have to drive across the whole state to Paducah or Caldwell County to see the Rebels play in the state semis then all I can say is WHOYAWITH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll be there.

The atmosphere in Bell County was top notch both times. It was so damn cold. So damn cold. But awesome atmosphere and such a beautiful field.

 

In 2009 when Phillip Barsotti kicked the game winning FG at Boyle County was one of the most awesome moments I have experienced at Boyle County.

There isn't any way of doing that unless you garuntee the neutral field was a 2 hour drive from both teams.

 

Do you think for instance if Cov Cath was playing Pulaski Co for instance and they played the game anywhere in Boone, Lenton or Cambpell counties it would be like a nuetral field?

Only way it works is if you play them all on Saturdays and have multiple games at one site. Then maybe it works.

Any distance driven within the state of Kentucky for a football game is relatively short compared to some states. I grew up in Colorado and if a west slope team like Durango had to travel to Denver for a playoff for game, you are talking about a 9-10 hr drive or longer if you have to go to Loveland or north east of Denver. An average conference game trip from Durango to Grand Junction is 4 hrs.

You might be missing the fact at "who" is complaining, its not the fans that have issue with the travel. Its the schools, trust me I hear about it from HS AD's regular that they are glad their teams dont make deep runs in playoffs, because they cant afford for them to go.
