September 24, 201511 yr The Steelers went for two after their first two touchdowns to jump out to a 16-3 lead on Sunday, an unheard of approach in an NFL where coaches only go for two when they need the points late in games. Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger says they won’t change that approach. “Oh, we’re going to keep doing it,” Roethlisberger said, via ESPN. “We don’t practice it this much to not do it. We practice it every single day. . . . I tried to tell you guys early on that we would do it, and I think you guys kind of didn’t quite believe it. But it’s something we feel comfortable with.” Roethlisberger says Steelers will keep going for two | ProFootballTalk
September 24, 201511 yr ^ Ever so close to a like... I once told my Grandpa that I loved him, and his reply, "It's a two-way street, Pal." That's as close as it ever got with him. I have a feeling that this is a similar situation for you, 'Ru.
September 24, 201511 yr For some reason, the Steelers are VERY good at 2pt conversions. The first time they didn't go for it on Sunday, they missed the XP. If you convert at 50% or better (they do), go for it every single time.
September 24, 201511 yr I'm a big fan of it as well. As the Steelers continue to have success with it, many others will begin to do the same.
September 24, 201511 yr The numbers say it is the right play, and as more go for it we shall see if the numbers continue to play out.
September 24, 201511 yr It makes sense. As long as you can get it 50% of the time then it will at worst even out to be the same as if you were kicking extra points. Which if you are getting it, it does put a little extra pressure on the opposing team.
September 24, 201511 yr Some numbers for consideration based on XP and conversion numbers through the 1st two weeks... If you score two TDs, the math says you have an ~11.25% of missing one of the two XPs. If you score those same two TDs, the math says you an ~21.78% of missing both 2-point tries. The fact that you have a ~53% chance of converting the 2 pt try renders the above stats pretty useless if you look at it on an isolated basis. I'm in favor of going for it every time.
September 24, 201511 yr I think I was going to say something similar to what UKMF said but his statistical analysis confused me. No idea how I got an A in the class, but probably because I took it as a post grad. Even if it only works like 45% of the time. It's probably still a better play because of the % chance that you missed the extra point at the added distance. Something like that.
September 24, 201511 yr It is a tough one. I don't go for two if it is tied with little or no time on the clock. I kick it. No way would they do it EVERY time.

There have been 155 XP attempts. 146 successful, so a success rate of ~94.2%. So to get the odds of making two in a row, you simply take 94.2% x 94.2%, which is roughly 88.75%. Same deal with two point conversions. So far teams have gone 8/15 or ~53.3%.
