Brady is a bad bad man but I think Rodgers is better than him. Brady has more accolades and is more celebrated. He has done more with less than anyone I can think of. That being said I think Rodgers has the total package more so than any QB I have ever seen. Because of the way the GOAT arguments are structured I believe Brady is more of the consensus GOAT and I am fine with that.

Stats mean nothing to me. When receivers can run free downfield offensive stats are bound to be great.

I still say the most amazing NFL record (for a long time) was Unitas throwing a TD pass in 48 consecutive games considering the rules they played by.

Anyhow, John Elway is my choice. Never had a stud receiver and finally had a great RB late in his career.

 

I love Elway but Brady has really only had a stud receiver - and for one year - Randy Moss - and he went 18-1 with him and threw about eleventy billion TD's that year (tribute to McPapa)...

 

Brady has not exactly had great RB's either. Name a great RB? Corey Dillon is the best that I can think of although I may be missing someone. My reason for Brady over Montana (and I love Montana too) is that Montana had Rice and Taylor and Roger Craig along with Bill Walsh. Brady has Belichick. Although I still say Brady has made Belichick more than vice versa (check out Belichick's record before Brady).

I think Brady is an all time great QB no question about it . But the thing that always gets lost about his first two titles is how he was more of a game manager than an elite QB. He became an elite Qb later.

 

I'm a Montana guy even as a Bengals fan. But in a sport like football , the ultimate team sport I don't understand how Titles alone define the best. Basing purely off raw ability in my life time the top 4 in no order are Marino Elway Farve and Rodgers.

He is in the team picture, no question. I prefer Elway and Montana, in that order. Then, I'd go Brady.

 

Elway took teams to the Super Bowl that had no business there and once he got a runner then he won his.

 

Montana wasn't prototypical in any way physically, yet he dominated with a dominant franchise. He never lost the big game when he got there.

 

Brady is the modern Montana. He dissects defenses like a surgeon. I'm always more surprised at his incompletions than his TD's. I expect him to be great and he rarely disappoints.

 

For me, the controversies of Spygate and Deflategate don't impact my opinion of Tom. Frankly, I am even willing to admit that I might be biased against Brady as a Jets fan and in that I watched Mintana and Elway as a kid (everything is better when you are a kid).

First Superbowl Brady was as shell of what he is today. People would not recognize him... looked like a rookie, which he practically was. He had less than 100 yards passing going into the final drive. Redmond caught some drop off passes that got that drive going. Ty Law or Vinateri should have been the MVP that game. His second Superbowl he balled out.

I think Brady is great but when we are talking all time great we also have to realize he wasn't top 5 by passer rating in a season until 2007.

We've had this debate time and time again on here, so I'll simply say one thing and then I'll bow out.

 

He's the best of all-time as of right now, but I think 5-7 years down the road there is a great chance that Aaron Rodgers will hold that distinction.

 

UKMustangFan is right about the ad nauseum discussions from the past. He and I went round and round about it awhile back. So I will only contribute this one post to the discussion. If you want to see a detailed analysis over a long running disagreement with statistical analyses, and an attempt to answer every and all counter arguments, do a search. But here's a summary of my take on it.

 

The only category that matters across all eras is Ws and Ls and especially in championship games.

 

Otto Graham for the Cleveland Browns played 1946-1955 and simply was the best ever. He played 10 seasons and was in the championship game of his league in every season he played. He won 7 championships. No one else compares. He was a winner. He also had phenomenal stats but i'm not going to go into all of that. Take it from Peter King of SI, nobody was/is better.

I might have put him near the top of the list after the marriage to Gisele but she's turned out to be kinda psycho. A great QB for sure but not even sure he's significantly better that the guys in his era.

Gronk could be an average TE if the quarterback can't find him fast enough. Montana had Rice but that doesn't take away any credibility to his talent. But the fact that Brady has broken almost every record is enough to consider him as the GOAT.

Hes has the highest percentage of wins in the regular season 162-47 or .77%. Hes not even done yet.
