So it's ok for Pulaski to use "recent" history to attain #1 , but not ok for BG to use "past" history to be #1 . The fact is BG has the best win in 5A against a solid top 3 if not top 2 Owensboro. I'm glad Pulaski scheduled and played well against Scott County because that's about all they will face in the regular season (save the Southwestern District Game). History is history and this year is this year. Through 4 weeks of THIS year BG #1 .

No, not when they are moving up a class. It would be if they were returning the majority of their starters including skill players. There was absolutely no sign that said they would be as great as they had been in 4A especially when going into the season many of the people closest to the program were worried about how they would be this season. It isn't a diss on Highlands at all, what it is is a diss on how rankings are made.

 

Should the Steelers be favored over the Patriots going into this NFL season because they won 4 SB's in 5 years? No, because they have an entirely different team than they had in the 70's. That is why history from teams totally different than the actual team currently shouldn't have much of a weight in the rankings. That is the point. If Beau Hoge was coming back this year then Highlands could warrant being in the top 3 in 5A. When you lose your best players and then on top of that move up to a bigger class, it makes it tough to think they'd be #1 to start without proving themselves first.

Yes they can, and that isn't a surprise by anyone. I was asked why I thought Pulaski should be ranked #1 and I gave my answer.

 

Now you bring up OSU, should they not be ranked #1 because of their schedule? They are still the best team in the country no matter who they are playing. You can play a tougher schedule and still get beat by a mid major, just ask Arkansas

Big difference in that game though was Pulaski had their best player (QB) out with an injury for that game I believe. He makes a huge difference. He didn't get back until the playoffs and when he came back they were an entirely different team.

I would make the argument that Bowling Green's win over Owensboro is better than any win Pulaski currently has and is better than any win they can possibly obtain in the regular season. If the argument is based on coming into the year, then perhaps you have a point, perhaps it was based more on the past at that point. But I don't think it holds as much water this week.

 

You'll find most people perceive Graves County's win over Bowling Green last season to have been a pretty significant upset at best, and a total fluke at worst. No one can take that title from Pulaski, but when you say they're BG's living off of 2-4 years ago, they were pretty doggone good last year, and have proven to be the same this year. I guess in this debate it boils down to giving a nod to the team with the better wins so far (both Christian County and Owensboro, and possibly even Monroe County are better wins than any Pulaski has to date), or the team that performed better in their loss (which the margins are only 4 points apart, but Pulaski was tougher throughout the game before fading late against Scott County while Bowling Green took a long time to close, and ran out of steam after getting it to 12).

Hmmmmm...no sign Highlands could succeed in 5A? Perhaps you aren't aware that the first 4 years of the 6 class system Highlands played in 5A. Here are the results of the 5A state championship game those four years:

I don't think anyone at Highlands was concerned about 5A and it is clear Highlands can compete at 5A. I see the point you're trying to make but Highlands is not a good example. Highlands has proven they are a program that reloads, not rebuilt. This year is the aberration
