I hope they never split up the games. This could and should be an EVENT, like the Sweet Sixteen (gasp, I know). The draw for the average fan is to come and see all the games, at least for me it is. I do not like having 3 games per day and would like to see it go to a 3 day event to make it more fan friendly. I know that adds a lot of cost, but the way it is now is some LONG days for folks who have to be outside for all 3. Especially with the unpredictable December weather.

I'll chime in like I have to do every time this happens. Elizabethtown Ky is as close to centrally located in KY as you can get with any hotel rooms. The geographic center is a few miles south and east of there. Anyone who says anything different has an agenda. Louisville and WKU are the only 2 college stadiums close to Elizabethtown. WKU is a little closer.

How much hassle is there associated with the tarps used by Jacksonville, the former Miami Marlins, etc. to cover up entire sections to make it look like the venue is much smaller? While it may not be worth it for 2 days, the advertising that could go on the tarps might defray some of that hassle.

Lou got out / didn't bid last time because their former conferences could not guarantee no game that weekend. With the ACC Championship Game, I think that issue is now gone. Would they get back in and bid for 2019? Don't know.

 

Lex has never been in because of natural grass. That is now moot, so maybe they try for 2019? Don't know.

 

Plenty of time to solve it on BGP before it becomes a real issue.

BG is the closest venue to the center of the state and it is sad that so many do not know enough about their own state to realize this. As for amenities, BG has never had any issues in having plenty for the games. If you are going you really don't have time for anything more than eating given the frantic schedule of the games anyway.

Ummmm... not to be rude, but not even close. Papa John's Cardinal Stadium is 42 miles almost due North of Elizabethtown. LT Smith Stadium at WKU is 73 miles Southwest. Source: Google Maps

 

Personally, I'd love to see it return to Louisville. Disregard 'cozy' venues and acquire big stadiums. Bigger is better, it allows the event room to grow and a larger city provides a better destination for events outside of the games. If not Louisville then I would be satisfied with Lexington.

 

However, I'm aware that given the sponsorship deals down at WKU it is unlike to change.

That way their is more seating for the regional championship games and it is also an event. To many times do I go to regional and semifinal games and see huge crowds with no place to sit. Also this would cut down traveling times for schools to allow more people to attend.

Right now the schools playing in regional championships and semis get a big payday because they get to split the gate. Do as you suggest and that gets cut down drastically because they have to pay stadium rental. And personally I LOVE it when there are huge crowds that are SRO. Great atmosphere that you lose in a bigger venue.

Not really. At 3,500 capacity, it would have to be twice as big to even be considered. But it would be a rocking environment since most championship game gates seem to run between 6,500-7,500 in recent years, with some wild swings low and high based on teams/distance and weather.
