BG is to far and boring, nothing to do in BG.

if it was a UK it would be real bad. It would look like no one is at the game. The atmosphere would be VERY BAD.

People seem to be forgetting the draw for kids wanting to play on the field at UK...just like at Rupp for the Sweet 16.

 

If UK wants it, they should get to host it and let's see what attendance looks like at that point. I would anticipate it being a GREAT crowd.

That logic would fly if people attended the football finals at the same rate they do the Sweet 16. At Rupp, 15K is a subpar crowd for any session. That's a huge crowd for any football finals game, yet would still barely make a dent in filling up Commonwealth or PJCS.

 

Given UK football's dismal history, the allure of playing at Commonwealth is not even in the same hemisphere as it is for Ky HS hoopsters wanting to play at Rupp.

 

It's great in BG, and perfect size to handle the crowds. There's plenty to do. Good nightlife downtown and even some non-chain restaurants if you're willing to look.

Geographically? Nope. The actual center is just outside of Elizabethtown and it's closer to Louisville than Bowling Green. In terms of population? Not even close. The majority of the state's population is concentrated around Louisville, Lexington and NKY, making Lexington an approximate center.

 

This is an important point, that I think a lot of the geographical arguments miss... Which stadium will get the MOST PEOPLE.

If you have it closer to the population center(s) there is an argument to be made that you would get more casual fans, and not just the die-hards.

 

And, FWIW, I have never heard a player or coach complain about "atmosphere" at any of the venues.

It's in December. Like there's a whole lot of fun options for kids outside of going to a mall.

I am not sure that is true, but it may be. I would not guess the venue is high on the priority list for those few who are playing for a state championship. I guess it might be, but it just seems to me like they have much more important issues at hand that week.

The amount of kids statewide wanting to grow up and be a Wildcat would far outnumber the ones wanting to be a Cadinal, Hilltopper and Colonel combined.

This is probably true. But the venue isn't the players primary concern. Where it's played doesn't affect one thing about the game, who plays in it, or how it is played. The players would play it in a parking lot and be happy. The venue is more about what stadium and local can reasonably accommodate the crowd, provide enough hotel rooms for teams and fans, etc, and provide a good fan experience on gameday. CWS fits the bill on all parts, but is far too big to provide a great gameday experience. You'd be lucky to even get CWS even 1/4 full.
