I like WKU but Commonwealth wouldn't be that bad. It has a more closed in and closer feeling that Papa John's.

 

EKU is in the middle of a renovation and adding quite a bit of seating on the away side. When that is completed I think Richmond would be a great place also.

I believe the EKU work is on hold after the Sunbelt turned them down.

If everyone is focused on making it "fair" as far as travel distances than Lindsey Wilson College is about as centrally located as you are going to get. It is just not a big enough stadium (Although it is a nice small facility) and town is not big enough. With WKU, EKU, UK, or UofL someone always ends up traveling a lot farther than other teams. I like the idea of 2 year rotations. 2 at WKU and then 2 at EKU, once it is renovated. The larger stadiums just don't provide quite the atmosphere for the event and Richmond/Bowling Green are cities that are capable of hosting.

 

I have said it before, WKU is the perfect venue for the KY High School Football Finals. I hope it stays there.

So would I but the drive is not the key element of consideration, and it shouldn't be.

I agree 100% and I say that without any hesitation. I hope it never leaves WKU. I may have the longest drive of anybody in KY to get to BG, and when the games moved from Papa Johns I gave up a lot. Even with those things considered I prefer WKU because the experience is just better.

Papa John's stadium was too big for the state finals. Commonwealth is also. WKU is perfect. I hope it always stays there. And for selfish reasons only I'd love it at Commonwealth or Richmond but I think WKU is perfect.

Seriously though, what's not to love about Bowling Green? Word up.

I don't think many cities/venues are going to be interested in bidding on a 1 year hosting deal.

Speaking of bidding, Bowling Green / WKU was the ONLY city/venue that even entered a bid to host this event for 2014-2018 so there really wasn't any other option.

Like to see it rotate also. UK Eastern and maybe even Morehead could host. Let more fans of teams that don't make the finals year end year out get a chance to go and watch some good High School Football. Their may even be a few High School stadiums that could possible host it.

I'll chime in like I have to do every time this happens. Elizabethtown Ky is as close to centrally located in KY as you can get with any hotel rooms. The geographic center is a few miles south and east of there. Anyone who says anything different has an agenda. Louisville and WKU are the only 2 college stadiums close to Elizabethtown. WKU is a little closer.

My understanding is U of L prefers not to deal with it. The way to solve this is to play it at different locations by class. There is no need for a party weekend for the coaching staffs. 6 games at one venue is a lot of work. At least Indianapolis is centrally located for our neighbors to the north. I never read any complaints about playing in a NFL facility. None of this "the cozier the better" mentality.

 

Let's see if Lexington has a groundswell of support from their community with sponsorship dollars to rival Russell Athletic/Fruit of the Loom.

The Sunbelt turn down was a blow but knowing that the other choice was Coastal Carolina not all eggs were put in that basket by EKU. Plans will continue to move forward with their renovation last I heard.

 

Not trying to be mean but IMO the 2 powerhouse areas for football are Louisville area and NKY. On average they sent the most teams consistently to state so to be fair to those areas EKU would be the best option. Lexington is right there every year sending teams to and Richmond would be a nice short drive. This would maximize attendance at the championship games. The WKU location because of purely distance keeps a good majority of fans from going.

Being a WKU alum with a son still down there I've loved the chance to visit during the finals. I'm glad it's staying in BG for at least a few more years.
