Should Israel launch a preemptive strike against Iran?

Featured Replies

The worlds best military? Man, don't ever say that in public.

That's what I've always heard. How they're the most efficient one and that no one wants to mess with the Israeli military. Is that not accurate?

Is that a bad thing?
That lobby groups control our foreign policy (among other things)? I'd think so.

I guess that is more indicative of a weak administration. Does the Israeli lobby group influence ( not control....) our foreign policy? Of course, just like every other lobby in the American political system influences policy decisions.

I'm a little surprised that the fact that lobby groups influence political decisions is news?

But, back to the original question. Should Iran launch a preemptive strike?

From an international governance, Israel would not be justified in launch such an attack, mainly due to the lack of imminent threat presented by the situation. 25 years does not embody imminent threat.

From a rationality standpoint, no. In all likelihood, Iran would either detect incoming nuclear missiles, or survive enough to launch a retaliatory attack. This would be the worst case scenario, likely starting a nuclear war, which pretty much means the end of humanity.

From a likelihood/ logistical standpoint, no. Israel will not do this without the full support of the United States. I find it hard to believe the current administration, or any future administrations, will be so incompetent as to not see the possible consequences of launching a nuclear attack on Iran

They are the best military in that region absolutely but they are from from the U.S.

It's not to me. But just because it's not news doesn't make it a good thing.

I think it's a little naive to pretend that a strong Israel lobby isn't the major reason we protect them.

At what point does heavy influence become control?

I never acted like that wasn't one of the reasons we protect them. That lobby represents our economic interests/ strategic interests in Israel. That is how they are able to influence us. If we want to continue to hold the current trade agreements with Israel, then we will continue to listen to the Israel lobby group

With the whole protection thing.. People need to understand that the U.S. is the only thing holding Israel back from destroying Iran. If anything, we're protecting Iran right now.

At what point does heavy influence become control?

That's a pretty objective question with no definitive answer but in my opinion not until they no longer need to pay to have their opinions be heard.

I believe it is the P5+1 (China, France, Russia, UK and US)

Relentless in their motives and tactics may be a better description. Their rules of engagement are and have been for some time geared toward destruction of the threat rather than containment. For that and the region they operate, they are far and away the best in the business. If looked at overall, strategically, have to go with US forces. From a special ops perspective, I do not want to ever mess with anyone associated with Mossad

The IDF are pipe hitters.

Good stuff. I like this thread, I feel like I've learned quite a bit.
