Should Israel launch a preemptive strike against Iran?

Featured Replies

Israel has one of the most advanced anti missile defense systems in the world. The second they detect any type of launch from Iran, will be Iran's last day on this earth. I honestly believe they could wipe Iran out in a half day.

There are a few problems with that though. Iran has manifested relations with China and Russia, who would likely retaliate against Israel in the event that Israel tries to eliminate Iran.

Also, in the event that Iran is still capable to launch a retaliatory attack, they undoubtedly would; prompting a response from the United States and likely triggering an all out war. The whereabouts of Iran's nuclear arsenal, allegedly weaponized nuclear reactors, are unknown but are believed to be underground in a desert. It would be highly unlikely that Israel would be able to, with 100% certainty, destroy all of Iranian leadership and nuclear reactors and suffer zero draw back.

Why are so many people wanting to start WWIII? Diplomacy often works and with oil prices crashing Russia and Iran will be further crippled from sanctions. I really fail to see why we would want to launch missles and start a war when there are other solutions. Too many young Americans have already died in the middle east.

I disagree, Israel has nukes ready to go at this very moment with planes and subs to launch them. Iran is far from that.

I dont think Iran is as far from that as many would like to believe. Additionally, their close ties with Russia make an attack against Iran pretty irrational, and would have much larger global implications than many are considering.

I've never understood why so many Americans feel we have some duty to defend Israel.

My personal feelings: they're two completely separate countries, if they want to blow each other up, go for it. We need to stay out of it either way.

The same folks who backed the Bush-Cheney war of Mideast destabilization in '03 now enjoy talking tough about a nuclear attack that would likely cast the world in military, economic and ecological turmoil for the next 50 years, if not longer.

^That is an extremely narrow minded view of how international relations work

Iran said Israel will be gone in 25 years, Israel could say Iran will be gone this weekend.

Israel is an extension of the U.S.

Then please explain why Israel is so important? Why do they deserve so much of our attention in affairs that don't involve us in anyway?

I'm not well-versed in foreign affairs or policy. I don't really keep up on it due to my view that we need to worry about problems that actually concern us rather than what happens across oceans and on the other side of the world.

Israel is an extension of the U.S.

How so?

They're their own country, right?

They play a huge role in our economy, share similar beliefs and are the closest thing to a democracy as you will see in that part of the world.

In the immortal words of the bad guy in the Bourne movies, 'I can send (whatever her name is) to kill someone, I send you because you are invisible'.

I thought Israel was doing what they can- infecting the nuclear program with malware and assassinating their nuclear scientists. How long do you think those guys will show up to work if their friends keep having 'accidents'?

So they share our beliefs. Cool.

What huge role do they have in our economy?
